Josh Hazlewood urged Sam Konstas to have faith in his own ability amid the youngster's struggles with the bat.
Australia opener Konstas dragged on for a duck on day two of the second Test against West Indies.
Konstas has now failed to get into double figures in three of his four innings this series, with his highest score being 25.
But bowler Hazlewood, who made his international debut in 2010, has no doubt Konstas will come good.
"You're here for a reason. I guess you just trust that," Hazlewood said when asked if he had any advice for the 19-year-old, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
"You're in this position because you're a good player.
"Every time I've bowled [to] him in the last few months, he just keeps getting better and better, it feels like.
"He got thrown in a tough situation there. But we saw in the first innings, he played some really nice shots, put some pressure back on the bowlers.
"I think he's turning in the right direction, but it's tough at 19."
It was not just Konstas who struggled after Australia went into bat on Friday, having bowled West Indies out for 253.
Veteran Usman Khawaja scored just two, with Jayden Seales taking both wickets as Australia reached stumps on 12-2, with a lead of 45.
"Anything under 200 runs, I think we'll be able to get that," West Indies captain Roston Chase said when asked what his team's target was.
Australia will resume play on day three with Cameron Green (six not out) and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon (two not out) at the crease.
