Pakistan U19: Sameer Minhas, Mohammad Shayan, Usman Khan, Ahmed Hussain, Farhan Yousaf (c), Huzaifa Ahsan, Hamza Zahoor (wk), Momin Qamar, Abdul Subhan, Umar Zaib, Ali Raza
England U19: Ben Dawkins, Joseph Moores, Ben Mayes, Thomas Rew (wk/c), Caleb Falconer, Ralphie Albert, Farhan Ahmed, Sebastian Morgan, James Minto, Manny Lumsden, Alex Green
Ali Raza starts proceedings for Pakistan with the ball, and Ben Dawkins, Joe Moores are the English openers at the crease. Raza strays down the leg side on the second delivery, and Dawkins gleefully flicks it to the fine leg boundary. But it's a good first over otherwise, with only one wide being the other runs from it.
Ali Raza sends back Joe Moores! The Pakistan Colts seamer bowls a probing good-length delivery that is too much for the England opener to handle. The ball takes the outside edge nad nestles into wicketkeeper Hamza Zahoor's gloves. That brings Ben Mayes to the middle.
Leg-spinner Ahmed Hussain has propelled Pakistan to ascendancy, dealing two early blows. He first is lucky to dismiss Ben Dawkins (33) off a rank short delivery, with captain Farhan Yousaf taking a superb diving catch at covers. Hussain then has Ben Mayes (20) caught by substitute Ali Hasan Baloch to leave England three down.
First with the ball, and now in the field! Ahmed Hussain pull off a brilliant catch off Abdul Subhan's bowling to help send back England skipper Thomas Rew for 14. Pakistan are holding sway at the moment, and Caleb Falconer has a big job to do in resurrecting the English innings.
Caleb Falconer is playing a really confident hand to bring England back in the game. He has raced away to his fifty off 50 balls, and with Ralphie Albert (15 not out) providing support from the other end, is making Pakistan think.
Pakistan's bowling protagonists today, Ahmed Hussain and Ali Raza, shift the momentum back in their favour by dismissing the two set batters. Hussain cleans Ralphie Albert (25), while Raza has Caleb Falconer (66) caught behind to leave England six down in the middle overs. Farhan Ahmed and Sebastian Morgan now at the crease for the Young Lions.
At the High Performance Oval in Windhoek, Namibia, Afghanistan are batting at 221 for 5 against South Africa in a concurrent U19 World Cup clash. The Afghans went from 183 for 1 to 186 for 5 as the Proteas inflicted a middle-order collapse, and it remains to be seen whether Afghanistan can post a total in excess of 260.
Pakistan snap up the last five wickets for 40 runs to bundle England out for 210 runs in 46.5 overs. Ali Raza, Abdul Subhan and Momin Qamar claim two wickets apiece to complement Ahmed Hussain's exemplary three-fer (3/38 in 10 overs). The Green Shirts would fancy chasing this total down, though the Young Lions' bowling cannot be discounted.
The in-form Sameer Minhas gets Pakistan going along with Mohammad Shayan, as they commence their chase of a below-par 211-run target. Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green sharing the new ball for the Young Lions, who need early wickets to make a match of it.
Alex Green gives England the early wickets they needed! The right-arm seamer induces Sameer Minhas' outside edge and then does the same to Mohammad Shayan, reaping rewards for some skillful bowling in the corridor of uncertainty. Pakistan are in a spot of bother and need a partnership to calm their nerves.
England have turned the tables on Pakistan with the ball. They are well and truly on top, having sent back four Pakistan batters in the first 15 overs. James Minto and Farhan Ahmed get rid of Usman Khan and Ahmed Hussain, both trapped in front, and Green Shirts skipper Farhan Yousaf (14 not out) has the weight of the entire innings on his shoulders now.
Farhan Yousaf is running out of middle-order partners. Huzaifa Ahsan lofts a Ralphie Albert full toss to Manny Lumsden, and Hamza Zahoor is the latest Pakistan batter to fall, also to Albert. Pakistan in deep trouble now, and need a special rearguard act to win this game from here.
Pakistan get some much-needed stability, with no wickets falling in the last 8-odd overs and a tiny partnership building. Farhan Yousaf (38 not out) has found some support from Abdul Subhan (10 not out), and while the required run rate has gone well over 6, as long as Farhan is in the middle, the Green Shirts will believe they are in with a chance.
The Pakistan U19 are in grave danger as they lose their 7th wicket in the form of Abdul Suhan, who got run out for 14. The young Shaheen still need 68 runs off 60 balls and they only have 3 wickets left. A well-set Farhan Yousaf (65*) holds the key for Pakistan but he need some support at the other end.
Ali Raza throws away his wickets in a careless run-out and with it Pakistan's innings comes to end for just 173 runs in 46.3 overs. The Young Shaheens lose the opening clash against England U19 by 37 runs. The bowlers did their job well by restricting England for just 210 but the batters couldn't complement and got rolled over 37 runs shy of the target.
India will be up against Bangladesh in their 2nd match of the Under 19 World Cup. India won their first match of the World Cup against USA by 6 wickets and will look to strengthen their qualification chances by registering a win against Bangladesh.
That's a wrap from our end. We'll meet soon with another blog, until then, bye bye.
