Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings faced off in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at the Ekana Stadium on Friday night, but much of the attention before the first ball was bowled centered around one particular name in the LSG playing XI.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first in a must-win game for his side as they attempted to keep their playoff hopes alive.
LSG, already eliminated from the qualification race, made two changes to the side, with Rishabh Pant confirming the inclusion of Arshin Kulkarni and Arjun Tendulkar. Mitchell Marsh was unavailable for the game after leaving to join Australia’s ODI squad, making Arjun’s selection an even bigger talking point among fans.

After spending most of IPL 2026 on the bench, Arjun Tendulkar finally made his Lucknow Super Giants debut against Punjab Kings. The left-arm pacer had joined LSG ahead of the season after being traded from Mumbai Indians, where he made his IPL debut back in 2023. His inclusion immediately created excitement online, with fans eager to see Sachin Tendulkar’s son receive another opportunity at the top level.
At the toss, Rishabh Pant described the Ekana surface as one of the better batting wickets this season and admitted it had been a difficult campaign for Lucknow. However, the franchise still chose to back young Indian players in their final league-stage match. Arjun arrived into the contest with solid domestic experience behind him, especially after representing Goa across formats in recent seasons.
Arjun Tendulkar first entered the IPL spotlight with Mumbai Indians before moving to Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2026 season. The 26-year-old is a left-arm medium pacer who can also contribute useful runs lower down the order. In domestic cricket for Goa, he has steadily improved over the last few years and even scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut in 2022, mirroring a famous feat achieved by his father Sachin Tendulkar.
Across T20 cricket, Arjun has picked up 35 wickets while developing a reputation for swinging the new ball and delivering accurate yorkers in the death overs. His performances in domestic cricket and white-ball tournaments kept him in the IPL conversation despite limited opportunities at franchise level. With LSG handing him a debut late in the season, Friday’s clash against PBKS could become an important step in rebuilding his IPL career and proving he belongs consistently at the highest level.
