India Vs West Indies 1st T20I LIVE Score: Windies Lose Two Wickets In Sixth Over | WI 44/3 (5.5)

Drama in Lucknow! Shimron Hetmyer is run out for 5 off just 2 balls after a risky single turns into a nightmare for West Indies. Axar Patel gets a hand to the ball and deflects it towards cover, prompting Hetmyer to take off. Shreyas Iyer charges in, throws towards Sanju Samson, and despite a slight delay in getting the ball onto the stumps, Samson completes the dismissal.

Hetmyer dives desperately, but his bat and handle are off the ground when the stumps are broken. The third umpire takes his time before confirming the decision. West Indies lose their second wicket, and India have seized the momentum!

Arshdeep Singh strikes in the powerplay! The India pacer produces the breakthrough as Kamil Pooran is clean bowled for 12 off 11 balls, including two boundaries. Arshdeep goes very full outside off, and Pooran fails to make the connection as the ball crashes into the stumps. The West Indies debutant walks back disappointed after a promising start.

What an over for West Indies! Shai Hope takes Mayank Yadav apart, smashing 16 runs from the second over with three boundaries and a six. Hope moves rapidly to 21 off 12 balls, putting early pressure on India. Kamil Pooran is still waiting for his first delivery, as Mayank Yadav finishes with figures of 1-0-16-0. West Indies have raced to 21/0 after two overs.

A steady start for West Indies as Shai Hope collects five runs from the opening over. Arshdeep Singh begins with the new ball but Hope finds the boundary to get the visitors moving. Kamil Pooran is yet to face a delivery on his T20I debut, while Hope settles in at 5 off 6. India will be looking for an early breakthrough.

The West Indies openers, Shai Hope and debutant Kamil Pooran, are now out in the middle, ready to face the challenge. At the other end, Arshdeep Singh has the new ball in hand.

Both national anthems have been completed, the formalities are out of the way, and the stage is set.

It’s time for action in Lucknow!

Meanwhile, there is a milestone on the West Indies side too, with Akeal Hosein set to play his 100th T20I, becoming part of an elite group in the format.

India have enjoyed the upper hand in T20I meetings against West Indies, winning 20 of the 31 matches played between the two sides. West Indies have claimed 10 victories, while one game ended without a result. However, the Caribbean side will draw confidence from the most recent T20I series between these teams. West Indies won that five-match series 3-2 in 2023, proving they can push India in the shortest format. A lot has changed for both teams since then, particularly with India undergoing significant changes, but that series result will serve as a reminder to the visitors that they have the firepower to challenge the hosts.

India head into the T20I series with confidence after clinching the ODI series 2-1, although West Indies will take plenty of positives from their campaign. The visitors ended the ODI leg on a high by winning the third match and showed they have the firepower to trouble India.

Their biggest statement came in the second ODI, when they smashed more than 400, the first time they had breached the 400-run mark in ODI history. Yet, India pulled off a remarkable chase to deny them victory. With the T20I series bringing a different format, a revamped Indian squad and fresh conditions, both sides will have to quickly reset and adapt.

Shreyas Iyer is set to lead India in a T20I on home soil for the first time. Since taking over from Suryakumar Yadav in June 2026, Iyer has captained India in 16 T20Is, but all of those assignments came away from home. Although India faced Afghanistan in three T20Is in Delhi last month, they were officially the visiting side. Today, Iyer gets his first opportunity to captain India in front of a home crowd, adding another milestone to his leadership journey.
