India hold a 20-13 edge over South Africa in ODIs, but it’s all square at 3-3 in World Cups, with the Proteas winning the last three. Recently though, India have dominated, leading 5-1 since the IWC 2022-25 cycle.

Rain played a big role this tournament, five games were washed out, four of them in Colombo, three involving Pakistan. The India–Bangladesh clash in Navi Mumbai was the latest to be abandoned, where Pratika Rawal also picked up an injury.

Not a good news for the cricket fans around the world. It has been raining in Navi Mumbai. Although there's still a lot of time left for the match to start but if the rain persists, we might see some delay in the toss.

The ground staff is hard at work removing the covers. A large wet patch near the pitch remains a concern, but efforts are on to dry it quickly. The aim is still to get a full 20 overs per side.

Official update: the toss has been delayed by 30 minutes and will now be held at 3:00 PM IST. Play to start at 3:30 PM IST. No overs lost, still a full 100-over contest

Oh no, the rain is back. Just when we were getting close to the toss, the drizzle has returned and the covers are coming on again. A frustrating update, the wait continues for the start of play

The umpires are out in the middle chatting with the ground staff, but it’s not looking good, all three have their umbrellas up. It’s absolutely pouring down here

Finally, some good news. The rain has stopped and it’s looking a bit brighter now. The ground staff are back in action with the super sopper working hard. Covers being peeled off slowly, positive signs for some play ahead

The covers are back on, but not because of rain! The skies are still blue, and players are walking around without umbrellas. Looks like just a precautionary move from the officials. A brief pause before we (hopefully) get underway soon.

We would’ve bowled first as well, given the weather and conditions. But yeah, it’s an important game, and somehow it feels like we’re back in rhythm. Hopefully, we can bat freely and put up a strong total on the board. This one’s a little sticky (pitch) because of the rain and the overhead conditions. The outfield is slightly damp too, but I think after five or six overs it should settle down nicely. We’ll try to do the same things again - play with intent, stay positive, and back our plans. We spoke about that game that night, enjoyed the win, and then had two days to recover and reset. Everyone’s back focused now, and we’re really looking forward to this game.

Yeah, a bit of rain around, so it just feels like a nice day to chase later with a bit of movement on offer. The surface looks pretty good, and hopefully we can get a bit of swing early on with the rain we’ve had over the last couple of hours. But yeah, looks like a really good wicket overall. Definitely, we haven’t played here before, but I think we’ve been pretty good at adapting throughout the tournament.

Hopefully our bowlers can quickly assess conditions and make the most of it today. We’re unchanged today. Definitely. It’s a big day for us, but we’re just really excited about the opportunity. It’s very special playing in front of a crowd like this, so we’ll just look to enjoy every moment. Yeah, we’ll take the positives from that, but it all starts from zero again today. We’ll have to start fresh, but the confidence in the group is high and we’ve been playing some really positive cricket.

We are underway for the final of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. Marizanne Kapp bowls the first over. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma will hope for a strong start here.

Marizanne Kapp bowls a maiden to start the proceedings of the final at the jampacked DY Patil Stadium. Kapp held a very tight line, giving no room to Smriti Mandhana to extend her hands. The Indian batters will have to be wary of Kapp, who has registered 12 wickets in the tournament.

Shafali Verma gets Team India off the mark. She cover drives Ayabonga Khaka's first ball for a four. First runs for the Women in Blue.

The Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is in the house to support the Women in Blue in this final. He will hope to see the Indian team lift another World Cup trophy in Mumbai.

Smriti Mandhana first plays the cut shot and then brings out the cover drive to score consecutive fours off Ayabonga Khaka. Runs are flowing here as India approach the 50-run mark.

Smriti Mandhana drives Kapp's leg-sided delivery for a four to bring up the first 50 runs for India. The Women in Blue are certainly off to a flyer as they are scoring runs at a rate of 7.29.

Smriti Mandhana (410*) has gone past Mithali Raj in the list of most runs for India in a single ODI World Cup campaign. The former India captain held the record for nearly 8 years, scoring 409 runs during the 2017 edition when the Indians finished as runners-up.

Brilliant start by India in this Women's World Cup final. The first 10 overs remained in favour of the hosts, who maintained a run-rate of 6.40 runs in the powerplay. Both the batters are looking hungry for runs and that is putting the South Africans under pressure.

The 64 runs scored in the powerplay was India's highest in the first 10 overs of the 2025 Women's World Cup.

Chloe Tryon gets the breakthrough wicket of Smriti Mandhana, which South Africa desperately needed. The partnership, which reached 104 runs in the previous ball, has finally been broken and in comes the player of the match from semi-final 2, the local hero - Jemimah Rodrigues.

Shafali Verma brings up her half-century off 49 balls. She came in as an injury replacement for Pratika Rawal and after a forgettable outing in the semi-final against Australia, Shafali makes the opportunity count.

Anneke Bosch what have you done? It was South Africa's best chance to remove the dangerous looking Shafali Verma, who had struck the ball in the air but Bosch fumbled. Jemimah Rodrigues had a similar fate against Australia when Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath dropped her catches, which proved costly. Will it be the same this time?

Oh no, Shafali Verma misses out on what could have been a sensational World Cup final century. Only 13 runs separated her from the century but what an innings she played here. 87 off 78 balls at a strike rate of 111.54 with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Shafali couldn't find the elevation she was looking for in that uppish cover drive off Ayabonga Khaka.

India's star from the semi-final against Australia - Jemimah Rodrigues has to depart for a score of 24 off 37. It was not her day even though she looked very calm at the start. Ayabonga Khaka gets her second wicket of the final.

After losing Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma in quick succession, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma have taken control of the Indian innings.

With Deepti and Harmanpreet taking full control, South Africa are a bit under pressure as they search for more wickets. The run-rate is well below 6 and India will hope to pace up with 12 overs to go.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur departs for a score of 20 off 29. Coming on the back of her match winning semi-final knock against Australia, Harmanpreet could not get not going in the final.

Brilliant caught and bowled by Nadine de Klerk who gets India's 5th wicket in the form of Amanjot Kaur, who has to head back for 12 off 14. Richa Ghosh comes and smacks de Klerk for a six.

The explosive Richa Ghosh has smacked 19 off 12 at a strike rate of over 150 following the dismissal of Amanjot Kaur. She has played some explosive shot already and just played a reverse sweep a four off Nonkululeko Mlaba.

Marizanne Kapp bowled two good deliveries to start the 48th over to Richa Ghosh, who then smashed a six in the 3rd ball off a slower delivery.

Deepti Sharma brings up her 3rd half-century of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 and 18th overall. She gets to a fifty off 52 balls. 2 overs remain with Richa Ghosh on strike. Ayabonga Khaka bowls the important 49th over.

Richa Ghosh departs in the last ball of the 49th over by Ayabonga Khaka, who collects her 3rd wicket of the final. Richa was looking for the big shot but she was caught by Dercksen in the deep square leg region after a blistering 34 off 24.

India will finish at 298/7 in the 1st innings through the late flurries of Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma. The Indian camp will be slightly disappointed as they could have scored 20-30 runs more. In fact, they might feel that they fell 30-40 runs short when they come out to bowl. The experts, too, feel the same way. Huge task in hand for the Indian bowlers.

Renuka Singh concedes only one run in the first over. The Indians will look for early wickets to unsettle the South Africans and get the big wickets of Laura Woolvaardt and Tazmin Brits.

Tazmin Brits drives one off Kranti Goud for a four to score South Africa's first boundary of their chase.

Renuka Thakur angled one in and struck Tazmin Brits' pads. It looked straight but the ball went down the leg. Harmanpreet and India lose a review very early in the 2nd innings.

Laura Woolvaardt and Tazmin Brits have started steady and have not gone all out against the Indian bowling attack. However, the partnership is slowly shaping up as well. The Indians have conceded 5 per over but what they need more is wickets.

The first wicket has come in the form of a run-out. Amanjot Kaur with a brilliant effort to send Tazmin Brits (23 off 35) to the pavilion from the bowling end. Anneke Bosch comes in at 3.

One brings another. Shortly after the run-out, Sree Charani gets Anneke Bosch on her pads and the Umpire raised the finger without any hesitations. The left-arm off-spinner has been an effective wicket-taker for India in this World Cup.

Laura Woolvaardt scores a fifty in the World Cup final, her 4th of the tournament. She would want to build on the start she has got off to and maybe score back-to-back hundreds in the knockouts.

Harmanpreet Kaur calls Shafali Verma to bowl the 21st over and the latter picks a wicket off the 2nd ball. Sune Luus gave away an easy catch to Shafali, who now has contributed with the ball as well. Important wicket for India.

India lose both of their reviews as Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma go against the on-field umpire's decision of not out for Marizanne Kapp. This was India's 11th outright unsuccessful review while fielding in the Women's World Cup, the most in the tournament.

Is there anything that Shafali Verma cannot do tonight? She bags the huge wicket of Marizanne Kapp with a soft dismissal. Shafali bowled it outside leg and Kapp nicked. Richa Ghosh completed a good catch there. India put the pressure back on South Africa.

Laura Wolvaardt and Sinalo Jafta have slowed things down after South Africa lost two quick wickets of Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp. Sree Charani has been impressive with her line-length and has also found decent turn.

Deepti Sharma sends Sinalo Jafta on her way, as the South African batter mistimes a shot straight to Radha Yadav at short mid-on. Annerie Dercksen joins Laura Wolvaardt, who is now into her 80s, in the middle. India are favourites now, but the match is not done by any stretch of imagination.

Deepti Sharma drops a regulation catch of Annerie Dercksen at short mid-on. It should have been an easy catch for Deepti as the ball came at a good height. How costly will this drop prove to be?

Deepti Sharma is all set to finish the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 as the leading wicket-taker. She was level with Annabel Sutherland (17 wickets) in the tally before the final. South Africa's wicket-keeper Sinalo Jafta became Deepti's 18th scalp of the tournament earlier in the game.

Laura Woolvardt scores a back-to-back fours off Shafali Verma to move closer to another World Cup century. With that, South Africa have reached the 200-mark.

Deepti Sharma gets her second wicket of the match as she bowls a ripper to send Annerie Dercksen back to the pavilion. Dercksen will depart for 35 off 37 and Deepti has made up for the catch she dropped when the former was at 24.

Laura Woolvaardt scores back-to-back centuries. She has been in a sensational form throughout the tournament and Woolvaardt showcased that tonight as well. She becomes only the 2nd batter to score a World Cup final century. Alyssa Healy was the first to do so during the 2022 final.

Deepti Sharma gets the big fish. Laura Woolvardt, just after scoring her 2nd World Cup 2025 century, hits the ball high in the air and Amanjot Kaur tosses and tumbles before hitting the ground and completing the catch. Huge moment in the game.

The crowd is buzzing!!! The atmosphere has shifted completely. Deepti Sharma gets another important wicket of Chloe Tryon, who missed the ball completely and got struck on the pad. She challenged the on-field Umpire's decision but the decision remains as Umpire's call, with the ball just clipping the stumps.

Nadine de Klerk has been dropped twice in consecutive deliveries, first by the bowler Renuka Thakur herself and then by Jemimah Rodrigues for a score of 7. The asking rate has spiked up 10 runs per over. De Klerk is South Africa's only hope now for a possible comeback.

The Umpire doesn't even go upstairs to double check whether Ayabonga Khaka was run-out or not. The 9th wicket falls for South Africa, and the World Cup trophy is just another wicket away.

India have done it! This team led by Harmanpreet Kaur have done it. The Indian Women are finally crowned Champions of the World after years of heartbreak and years of agony. The moment has finally arrived. These girls can smile and enjoy now. You can see the delight on Harmanpreet's face. And the crowd is proudly chanting "Vande Mataram". The stuff of imagination is now India's reality.

Pratika Rawal has joined the team for the celebrations. The right-hand opening batter suffered an unfortunate tournament ending ankle injury during India's last league stage match against Bangladesh.

This team truly deserves to be here."

At 36 years and 239 days, Harmanpreet Kaur becomes the oldest captain to win the Women's ODI World Cup.

"It's unfortunate to be on the losing side today, but I’m sure we’ll definitely grow from this as a group. I think we did so well to put those couple of bad games behind us. We were either really good or really bad, but thankfully there was a lot more really good throughout this tournament. There were so many different players stepping up. It’s been an amazing tournament for a lot of them, and I’m just really proud of the resilience we showed to make it all the way to the final."

"I always enjoy whatever role I have been given. Whatever situation I'm up for it, because I like challenges. I had to play according to the situation today and I enjoyed my role with both bat and ball. I think Laura played a very good innings. But we were not relaxed anywhere. We were very calm. We were always cheering each other up, whatever drinks break or other break we were getting we we using that time to discuss plans. And as a batting unit, we were talking that we have to go till the last ball. And as a bowling unit, we have to focus more on our best ball. And we did the same thing. We have won the World Cup. There have been a lot of changes since 2017. And I would like to say that the number of matches and the standards have gone up. I just wanted to say that I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad."
