Whenever Team India plays a Test match, fans always look out for something beyond the batting and bowling -- it’s Rishabh Pant’s stump mic moments. And once again, he didn’t disappoint. During Day 1 of the 2nd Test against England, a short chat between Pant and captain Shubman Gill was caught on the mic. The two were discussing a tactical approach after Pant noticed the ball had gone soft.

"Ball bohot soft ho gaya hai, ja nahi raha bilkul (the ball has gone soft, it’s not going anywhere)," said Rishabh Pant at Edgbaston who scored just 25 runs in the first innings of 2nd Test, after smashing two centuries in the first Test at Headingley.

Gill responded, "Abhi nahi lenge idhar, rehne de," indicating they should avoid risky singles for now. Pant agreed and added, "Dekh lenge call pe. Pehle hi mat decide kar kuch bhi. Call rakhenge ek," said Pant in the stump mic moment captured and shared by Star Sports.

It wasn’t just the chat that drew attention of the internet quickly on Thursday, but also the understanding between Gill and Pant, who are leading India as captain and vice-captain respectively in India's Tour Of England 2025.

Shubman Gill, in his debut Test as captain leading a young Indian side came into this match under the scanner as the squad was missing the two stalwarts of India Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Questions were raised about whether he was ready to lead a transitional Indian side in England. Now, alongside Rishabh Pant, Gill is beginning to steady the ships -- and much like the Kohli-Rohit era, hopes are once again being pinned on this new duo to carry India forward.

Despite the defeat in Leeds by 5 wickets, India's effort won hearts. And the team soon bounced back in the 2nd posting a massive 587 in the first innings, largely thanks to the captain's record-breaking double ton (269 runs).

Moreover, India’s pace attack stepped up well on Day 2 as they reduced England to 77/3 by stumps. Making his debut in the series Akash Deep made an immediate impact by dismissing both Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope for ducks.
