3,969 Molestation Cases Registered In 2016 In Delhi, Reveals RTI Reports

A report on Friday has revealed that national capital has recorded a whopping 3,969 number of women molestation cases in the year 2016.

A non-governmental civic watchdog, in its white paper on the "Status of Crime and Policing in Delhi", on Friday, said that out of the 3,969 molestation cases registered last year, 590 were reported from the south district itself.

However, according to Hindustan Times, out of the total number of cases registered in 2016 related to molestation, flashing, sexual harassment, voyeurism and stalking registered across the national capital, only 65% have been solved by the police while the left 35% is still unsolved.

The NGO reports also added that the total 3,969 molestation cases that was recorded from the national capital last year, most have been  registered under Indian Penal Code sections 354 A (sexual harassment), 354 B (molestation, intent to disrobe) and 354 C (voyeurism), 354 D (stalking) of the Indian penal code.

The report also revealed that the number of molestation cases increased in the central, outer, New Delhi, north, south, southeast districts last year as compared to 2015. In 2015, 485 cases of molestation were reported in the south district compared to 826 in 2014.
