A Supreme Court bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta directed Karnataka to comply with the Cauvery Water Management Authority's water-release orders.
The apex court deferred the hearing by one week to monitor Karnataka's compliance, noting that Tamil Nadu currently has sufficient water to avoid immediate coercive action.
Senior advocate CS Vaidyanathan, representing Tamil Nadu, alleged that Karnataka has failed to comply with CWMA directives, leaving Tamil Nadu with a backlog of about 20 TMC.
