Rahul Gandhi Addresses Letter To Manipur Journalist Who Was Jailed For Targeting PM Modi

The Congress Chief wrote, 'fascist forces have not only attempted to destroy the idea of India but attack anyone who challenges their distorted narrative.'

Congress President Rahul Gandhi penned down a letter condemning the incarceration of a Manipur Journalist Kishorechandra Wangkhem who was booked under the National Security Act two months ago for targeting Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his social media post.

Gandhi wrote in a letter addressed to Wangkhem, "I strongly condemn your detention under the National Security Act. This is another attempt to use the state machinery to silence dissent," as quoted by NDTV.

The Congress chief further added, "fascist forces have not only attempted to destroy the idea of India but attack anyone who challenges their distorted narrative."

Kishorchandra, 39 was reporting for a local news channel. In August last year, he posted on Facebook a photograph of a rally taken out by protesters demanding normalcy be returned at Manipur University. In his Facebook post, the journalist said that some people in the rally belonged to the ‘Budhu Joker Party.’ He was called up by police and arrested and sent to five-day judicial custody.

Later, he was lodged in jail and charged under the National Security Act.

On December 10, Wangkem Kishorchandra’s lawyer Ch. Victor had made a representation to the chief secretary of Manipur seeking revocation of the detention order.
