Over 1,700 acres (5,250 bighas) of reserve forest land in Assam’s Hojai district were cleared in a government-led eviction drive.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called the operation “peaceful, lawful and decisive,” warning against future encroachments.
The drive is part of a broader campaign since 2021 that has reclaimed nearly 1.45 lakh bighas, largely affecting Bengali-speaking Muslim communities.
