'Why Would You Want A Woman To Strip?': Passenger Alleges Misconduct At Bengaluru Airport

Taking to a Twitter post, which has now been deleted, the woman alleged that she was asked to remove her shirt during the security check at the Bengaluru Airport.

Making allegations against Bengaluru Airport, a musician said that she was asked to remove her shirt during the security check which was quite "humiliating" for her. She made the allegation in a post on her Twitter account, now deactivated.

According to media reports, in the purported Twitter post, that was uploaded on Tuesday evening, the musician said, "I was asked to remove my shirt at Bengaluru airport during security check. It was really humiliating to stand there at the security checkpoint wearing just a camisole and getting the kind of attention you'd never want as a woman. @BLRAirport Why would you need a woman to strip?" she wrote.

However, the post was deleted this morning and her account was soon deactivated.

Responding to the allegation on Twitter, the official handle of Bengaluru Airport said, "We deeply regret the hassle caused and this should not have happened. We have highlighted this to our operations team and also escalated it to the security team managed by CISF (Central Industrial Security force) a Government sovereign."

This comes weeks after Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru airports came under the scanner over excessive chaos. Bengaluru airport witnessed chaotic scenes and long queues as passengers complained of delays at immigration counters and a harrowing experience during security check.

Last month, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) took cognizance of the congestion at the country’s leading airports again. Just days after the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stepped in to sort out the Delhi Airport chaos, the MoCA again took note of all the complaints and addressed the Mumbai and Bengaluru airport operators.

According to official updates from MoCA, the authorities have asked Mumbai and Bengaluru airports to put in place additional capacity and redesign their systems. Since the holiday season is just around the corner and the air traffic is expected to pick up, the MoCA has asked these major airports of the country to take these and few more steps at the earliest.
