Kolkata, August 8, 2026: Heritage Institute of Technology (HITK), Kolkata, is conducting COMPASS 2026, its four-day Student Induction Programme for newly admitted B.Tech and MBA students from August 5th to 8th, 2026. The programme is designed to help students transition into campus life while introducing them to academic excellence, institutional values, industry expectations, wellbeing and career opportunities.
COMPASS 2026: Inspiring Young Minds To Navigate College And Beyond
Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, held COMPASS 2026 from August 5–8, a four-day induction programme helping new B.Tech and MBA students transition smoothly into college life and careers.
The programme was inaugurated on August 5 with a Vedic invocation and ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the presence of distinguished academicians, industry leaders and thought leaders. The inaugural session featured addresses by Padma Shri Mr. Sajjan Bhajanka, Secretary and Founder Trustee, Kalyan Bharti Trust and Chairman, Century Plyboards (I) Ltd.; Ms. Vineeta Bajoria, Chairperson, Nicco Cables Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Debraj Kundu, Retail Delivery & Sales Head, Tata Consultancy Services; and Prof. Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty, Vice Chancellor, Presidency University, Kolkata. Prof. (Dr.) Basab Chaudhuri, Principal, HITK, welcomed the gathering, while Prof. (Dr.) Pradipta Banerji, Director – Research & Innovation, highlighted the importance of innovation and research.
Dignitaries inaugurate COMPASS 2026 orientation at Heritage Institute of Technology
The programme featured a diverse range of sessions covering Indian heritage and values, cybersecurity, de-addiction, health and wellness, fitness, entrepreneurship, changing industry landscapes and student development. Swami Vedatitanandaji Maharaj, Correspondent, Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira, Belur Math, spoke on “Indian Heritage, Culture & Values,” while Mr. Sourav Chakraborty, Technology Head, TCS Cyber Security, engaged students on cybersecurity threats, digital responsibility and emerging opportunities.
As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Dr. Sachin Parab, De-addiction Counsellor and National Coordinator, Brahma Kumaris Medical Wing, sensitised students to the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse, encouraging them to make informed choices and resist peer pressure.
A special interaction with newly admitted B.Tech students was led by Mr. Jaydeep Chitlangia, Founder Trustee, Heritage Group of Institutions and Chief Mentor, Duroply Industries Ltd. Reflecting on the transition from a structured school environment to the independence of college life, he encouraged students to embrace success with humility and failure with courage.
He also spoke about manifestation, responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, independent thinking and digital wellbeing, urging students to balance technology with human curiosity and creativity. As a simple practice of self-reflection, he encouraged them to spend at least ten minutes each day in solitude, away from screens and distractions.
With departmental orientations, student clubs, academic processes, alumni speak and cultural activities forming part of the programme, COMPASS 2026 provided the new batch with not just an introduction to college, but a broader perspective on the values, mindset and responsibilities that will shape their journey ahead.
