The day was finalized by UNESCO General Conference in 1995 to honour the world-renowned authors and their masterpieces. During every World Book Day celebrations, UNESCO and several organizations representing publishers, booksellers and libraries select World Book Capital for a year to maintain the celebrations of books and readings. For this year, Sharjah in UAE has been declared as The World Book Capital.
