Flat tracking as a sport might not be quite popular in India but it is a big deal in the US and that’s where the FTR has its roots. Right from the start, it has always been Harley-Davidson vs Indian with a few others manufacturers making a cameo on the podium. And since the past couple of years, Indian’s ‘Wrecking Crew’ has been winning the American Flat Track with its FTR750. To give customers a taste of the same flat tracking genes, Indian had unveiled the FTR 1200 series at Intermot, earlier this year.

The FTR 1200 S blends Indian’s flat tracking DNA with a modern roadster avatar, with a large V-twin motor at its heart. The 1200cc liquid-cooled V-twin is a bored out version of the Scout’s 1133cc mill. It makes 121.7PS of power and 115.2Nm of torque, 20PS and 18Nm more than the Scout. As far as electronic goodies are concerned, the bike gets ride-by-wire, three rider modes (Sport, Standard and Rain), traction control, wheelie control, six-axis IMU, cornering ABS and a slip-and-assist clutch.

The FTR 1200 S also gets fancy features like a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen (with phone connectivity), fully adjustable 43mm separate cartridge USD forks, fully adjustable piggyback monoshock and LED lighting. These motorcycles will only have a few takers as this is meant for a niche audience. Since this is a CBU, Indian has had to price it at a premium over conventional 1200cc rivals from Harley or Triumph.

Here’s Indian Motorcycle’s official press release about the price announcement:
