Haunted By Sakinaka Rape Case, Maharashtra Police Chief Urges His Men To Step Up Vigil

The Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Pandey’s statement came following a meeting with National Commission of Women team.

Following the horrific Sakinaka rape and assault case, Maharashtra police chief Sanjay Pandey on Sunday urged his men to act swiftly to stop the crimes taking place against the woman.

Taking to social media the state’s Director General of Police Pandey said: “Rape and murder of minor girls had taken place in Maharashtra in the past few days and the police must probe them as soon as possible, arrest the culprits and charge sheets must be filed within 60 days”.

He also said the police must maintain vigil at railway stations, colleges and other places to keep a check on eve-teasing.

Meanwhile, a team from the National Commission for Women met Pandey in connection with the Sakinaka rape case during the day.

A 34-year-old woman was raped and inflicted with severe injuries on her private parts with an iron rod inside a stationary tempo in Sakinaka in the early hours of Friday, leading to her death in a nearby hospital on Saturday. (With PTI inputs)
