A depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and crossed the Odisha coast on Monday morning, bringing heavy rains to the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD Issues Yellow Alert For MP, 21 Districts Likely To Get Hit By Heavy Rain And Thunderstorms

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) with thunderstorm and lightning may hit isolated places of Sagar, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Panna, Niwari, Rewa, Satna, Anuppur, Umaria, Dindori, Katni and Narsinghpur districts.

The red alert, for heavy to very heavy as well as extremely heavy rainfall, was for isolated places in Satna, Guna, Sheopur, Chhattarpaur and Tikamgarh, most of these districts being located in north MP along the border with the southern part of Uttar Pradesh

A maximum of 304 mm rainfall was recorded in Baran, followed by Niwai in Tonk where 192 mm of rains were recorded.

IMD Predicts Isolated Heavy Rainfall To Hit West Coast In 2-3 Days

'Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely to continue over west coast during next 2-3 days with reduction thereafter,' the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
