Chasing an improbable target of 413 runs to level the two-match Test series against South Africa, a seemingly carefree Bangladesh were bundled out for 80 runs in just 23.3 overs on Day 4 at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth. Meaning, another heavy defeat for Bangladesh against the Proteas. Bangladesh have now lost all but two Test matches in their 14 outings against South Africa. In South Africa, it's 8-0, or 0-8 whichever way one likes to read it. And triggering the collapse was, once again, Keshav Maharaj. The 32-year-old left-arm spinner registered figures of 7/40 in 12 overs; and he, along with Simon Harmer (3/34), left the visitors dumbfounded in the second innings. The pair combined to claim all ten wickets in the fourth innings of the first Test in Durban too. Maharaj took nine wickets in the match, and 16 in the series. He also hit an entertaining 84 in the first innings of the second Test as South Africa post 453. Well, Proteas were without their stars thanks to IPL, but they found a 'Maharaj'. In the cricket history!

Scores:

BAN - 80 & 217
SA - 176/6d & 453

What a performance South Africa. They took just 19 overs in Durban to rout Bangladesh amid calls of poor umpiring and sledging, then four and half more overs in Gqeberha.

Keshav Maharaj gets his seventh. Seven in Durban, another seven here. LBW, against plodding Khaled Ahmed. Bangladesh take the review. No bat involved and hitting the leg stump. 2:24 PM IST: Eight Down

Keshav Maharaj on with his 13th over. Mehidy Hasan hits a cracking four, off the first ball, past backward point. A dot then a shout for caught behind. On the front foot and the ball brushing the edge. Replays show a spike and Hasan goes for 20 off 25. Nice take, Kyle Verreynne! And a sixth for Maharaj. Bangladesh need 333 runs. Khaled Ahmed is the new man. BAN - 80/8 (22.3)

2:17 PM IST: Seven Down

Keshav Maharaj continues. And another fifer for him. Litton Das stumped off the first ball. Das goes for 27 off 33. Taijul Islam is the new man. Bangladesh in tatters. BAN - 69/7 (20.1)

Keshav Maharaj continues. Mominul Haque goes for a sweep, and is caught by Ryan Rickelton at square leg. Nowhere near to play the shot. Looks like Bangladesh batters, including the skipper, are in a hurry to return home. Throwing the wickets away. Haque goes for 5 off 25. Yasir Ali is the new man. BAN - 38/5 (12.1)

1:45 PM IST: Das Four

1:37 PM IST: Trial By Spin

Simon Harmer to complete his fifth over. Bails were drawn on Day 3 after the wicket of Tamim Iqbal off the first ball in the tenth over. Four byes to start the day. Mushfiqur Rahim looks to play down the leg, but misses and the ball beats everyone. A review of LBW. Missing the target. High bounce. A single off the fifth. Five from the over. Bangladesh need 381 runs. BAN - 32/3 (10)

1:28 PM IST: Ready

It will be a trial by spin, not pace for Bangladesh. South Africa have so far relied heavily on Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer in this series. Players are in the middle.

There are changes in personnel for South Africa due to positive COVID-19 cases. Sarel Erwee and Wiaan Mulder are the players missing the remainder of the match. They have been replaced by Khaya Zondo and Glenton Stuurman

1:10 PM IST: No Joy For Mahmudul

Mahmudul Hasan Joy has run out of form after becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to score a century in South Africa. Mahmudul has been out for zero in both innings in the second Test to become the second Bangladesh opener to bag a pair. Javed Omar did so against India in Mirpur in May 2007. India had won that match by an innings and 239 runs with the top four batsmen -- Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer, Rahul Dravid (captain) and Sachin Tendulkar -- all scoring big hundreds!

12:36 PM IST: Middle Order Key

Having lost three top order batsmen cheaply, Bangladesh will depend a lot on their out-of-form skipper Mominul Haque and the middle order where former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim played a gritty knock in the first innings. Tamim Iqbal's wicket at the fag end of Day 3 was a huge blow but BAN face a daunting task on a St George's Park pitch that has been aiding the spin bowlers. It may be recalled that Bangladesh were all out for 53 in their second innings at Durban. Here at PE, Bangladesh lost their last five first innings wickets for only 25 runs after Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali added 70 runs for the sixth wicket.
