SA Vs BAN, Second Test, Day 2: Bangladesh 139/5, Trail South Africa By 314 Runs - Highlights

After posting a big total of 453 runs riding on Keshav Maharaj's 84, South African bowlers put up a sensational show with the ball to reduce Bangladesh to 139/5 by the end of play on Day 2. Wiaan Mulder returned 3/15, while Duanne Olivier took 2/17. South Africa started the day at 278 for five wickets and managed to get 175 runs more before Taijul Islam’s 6/135 and Khaled Ahmed’s 3/100 bundled them out. The play on Day 2 ends with South Africa dominating the game by a fair margin. Bangladesh are already five down and still trail by 314 runs. The pitch is offering a lot of help to bowlers and the Tigers need to punch above their weight even if they wish to draw this game.

8:31 PM IST: Liton Das Is Out!

Another one bites the dust. Liton Das has been cleaned up by Duanne Olivier on 11 runs. The ball was pitched up and it swung into Das and rattled his stumps by going through his defence.

Wiaan Mulder has struck again! This time he gets the wicket of Mominul Haque and Bangladesh are under serious pressure. They still trail by 353 runs and have their task cut out in this innings.

Another set batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto departs on 33. Wiaam Mulder strikes again. It was given not out by the umpire but South Africa reviewed it and it was found to be hitting the stumps by a fair amount.

7:37 PM IST: Wicket

Tamim Iqbal (47 off 57) has been given out LBW! Wiaan Mulder gets the wicket. It was pitched up and Tamim failed to play the ball on the leg side and missed it. Umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger, rightly so as the ball was found to be clipping the leg stump.

Tamim Iqbal and Nahmul Hasan Shanto look set at St.George's Park. The duo has so far put on 62 runs negating the South African bowlers. Positive sign for the visiting side. BAN 65/1 (17)

Tamim Iqbal and Nazmul Hasan Shanto steady the Bangladesh ship. The duo have added 26 runs for the second wicket so far. BAN 30/1 (8)

6:13 PM IST: Olivier Strikes

What a start for South Africa. Duanne Olivier gives the hosts breakthrough in the fifth ball of the innings. Mahmudul Hasan Joy gets a thick edge and Saren Erwee makes no mistake at the first slip.

It's all over for South Africa in the first innings. Mehidy Hasan dismisses Lizaad Williams as the hosts finish at 453. Tea has been called too. Taijul Islam finishes with 6/135

It's Taijul Islam again. Simon Harmer is brilliantly stumped by Liton Das to give Taijul his sixth of the innings. Harmer is also Taijul's 150th Test victim.

Back-to-back fours from Keshav Maharaj off Ebadot Hossain. The South African was also dropped by Yasir Ali at first slip on the first ball of the over. Meanwhile, South Africa reach 400. SA 401/7 (119)

Great session for the hosts. They have added more than 100 runs to their overnight score losing just two wickets in the process. A total close to 450 is on the sight with Keshav Maharaj still batting on 55. SA go into the break at 384/7 (115)

It's mostly cloudy and the pitch was covered. It was drizzling. Play should start on time.

Bangladesh, who lost the first Test in Durban by 220 runs, have looked quite competitive on Day 1. They found success through left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who claimed the crucial wickets of Elgar, Petersen and Rickelton for his 3 for 77. Pacer Khaled Ahmed filled in well for injured strike bowler Taskin Ahmed by taking 2 for 59. This included the wicket of Bavuma.

12:55 PM IST: Bavuma's Wait Continues

Temba Bavuma's wait to score his second Test century continues. Bavuma's 67 at PE was his 19th Test half-century but he is yet to add to his one and only hundred, which he made six years ago. He was out for 93 in the first Test. Other South African batsmen who failed to convert their fifties into a hundred were Dean Elgar (70) and Keegan Petersen (64).

90 overs, 278/8. Dean Elgar won the toss and opted to bat first. The hosts' skipper (70 off 89) then stitched a 52-run opening stand with Sarel Erwee (24 off 40). It was followed by fifties from Keegan Petersen (64 off 124) and Temba Bavuma (67 off 162). Ryan Rickelton also scored a good-looking 42 off 82. At the close of play on Day 1, Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder were unbeaten on 10 off 24 and 0 off 19.

For the visitors, Taijul Islam and Khaled Ahmed claimed 3/77 and 2/59. Mehidy Hasan, Ebadot Hossain and Najmul Hossain Shanto were the other three bowlers utilised by Mominul Haque.
