Parts of North India are expected to witness a cold wave this week as temperatures continue to dip. In the next three days, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a fall of three-four degrees in the night in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.

"Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana during Dec 31-Jan 2, and over Rajasthan during Dec 30-Jan 2," said the IMD. Along with a cold wave, the weather department has also warned of dense fog.

Delhi Temperature Likely To Dip Below 10 Degrees

From New Year's Day onwards, a cold wave is expected to persist across Delhi-NCR during the day, reducing visibility and a drop in temperature.

On Monday, parts of Delhi already witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures with Safdarjung recording a maximum temperature of 15°C, five degrees below normal, and Palam at 13°C, seven degrees below the average.

Moderate Rains Expected In South India

For Tamil Nadu, specifically Chennai, is expected to witness more rain. Over the next week, parts of Chennai are expected to witness light drizzle.

Meanwhile in Karnataka, a cold wave alert has been issued as the state witnesses fog. As per the regional weather department, fog is expected to prevail over the state till January 5.
