Uttarakhand: Transformer Explosion Kills 15, Many Electrocuted At Namami Gange Site; CM Dhami Orders probe

It has been reported that many people are feared to be electrocuted at the Namami Gange project site in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. Police and rescue teams have reached the spot and have started relief operations.

After a transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, fifteen people died and several were injured. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital, according to SP, Chamoli, Parmendra Doval.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident. "Along with expressing my deepest condolences to the bereaved families, I wish speedy recovery to all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in all possible help to the victims," he said.

In light of the tragic incident, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami told reporters, "A magisterial investigation has been ordered. Helicopters are also being used to shift those injured to different medical centres for treatment.”

Following the instructions given by Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, District Magistrate Chamoli Himanshu Khurana ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Chamoli incident.

According to the Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, V Murugesan, "Around 15 people including a police sub-inspector & five home guards have died. Investigation is underway. Prima Facie reveals that there was current on the railing and the investigation will reveal the further details."
