Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday granted bail to Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Yadav, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi, Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and RJD MP Misa Bharti, in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam case.

Special Judge Geetanjali Goel granted relief to the accused after they appeared before the court in pursuance of summons issued against them. The court took cognisance of the charge sheet filed against them and other accused, saying the evidence “prima facie” showed commission of various offences, including corruption, criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery.

The land for job scam refers to alleged wrongdoing in the recruitment of 'Group-D' personnel during 2004-09. It is alleged that appointments in the said period to 'Group-D' posts were made in exchange of land parcels. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the FIR in the matter on May 2022.

The CBI in its charge sheet alleged that favourite candidates were appointed in the railways during Lalu Prasad's tenure as minister in the UPA government from 2004 to 2009 in violation of norms and procedures. No advertisement or public notice was issued for appointment but some residents of Patna were appointed as substitutes in different zonal railways located at Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hazipur, it claimed.

The CBI had filed the first charge sheet in the case in October last year against Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and others. It was related to appointments made in the Mumbai-headquartered Central Zone of the railways.
