Actor Paresh Rawal, who was last seen in Umesh Shukla’s ‘Aankh Micholi’, has been working in showbiz for 40 years. However, he is not an actor who has been typecast.

During a recent interview with Indian Express, the actor got candid about keeping such tags at bay, and also talked about the debate around nepotism with reference to his sons Aditya and Anirudh. He even praised Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s talent.

When asked about not being tagged as a comedy actor or a villain, he said, “It is a very conscious and deliberate decision..I never say that I am a villain or a comedian, I say I am an actor and I can do different types of roles. Once you brand yourself then people are ready with their labels, they will stick it on you. But I am an actor, why should I brand myself, put myself in a cage?”

He further praised the new generation of actors for being “curious and hard working”. Paresh Rawal said, “An actor is nothing but an amalgamation of so many factors. In a film for an actor to become a star, over a hundred and fifty people give it their all, so the credit should always go to them. That actor who has become a star should not forget the team’s efforts, they should accept it with humility.”

He added that the new generation of actors are “working, very focused, never wavering”, as they are career oriented and know what’s working and what’s not working. He called the likes of Vicky Kaushal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkumar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, really good at their work.

Not to miss, his own sons are also making their foray into acting. His son Aditya Rawal made his acting debut in 2020 with ‘Bamfaad’, while Aniruddh Rawal has been seen in films like ‘Sultan’ (2016), ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017) and ‘Scoop’ (2023).

Questioned if he has ever helped them get projects, he said, “My sons make their own choices, until they make mistakes they will not learn. Only if they come to me and ask for it, I’ll advise him. If they don’t ask me, I don’t tell them anything… They have not used my name to enter this world (Bollywood).”

Last but not the least, the renowned actor gave an update on his upcoming films — ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ with Akshay Kumar and the third installment of ‘Hera Pheri 3’ with Akshay and Suniel Shetty.

He revealed, “Welcome to the Jungle is being made with a massive (budget) and a big star-cast. I feel the movie will turn out to be jabardast (fantastic). Whereas when it comes to Hera Pheri, it is such a big brand so one has to be cautious. You can’t take things for granted because we have to understand that however big a hit the film was, whatever its goodwill and fan following, times have changed now, people’s taste has changed, their aspirations have changed. So keeping that in mind we’ll start shooting for it in March- April 2024.”
