Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is yet another yawn-inducing film on confused young love. Director Arif Ali faithfully apes brother Imtiaz Ali’s brand of cinema. It’s about eloping, about journeys that lead to self-discovery and that help one find true love. The oft-done formula, which clearly feels like past expiry date, could have still worked with some freshness of treatment. Unfortunately, it feels like leftovers of a Socha Na Tha. Not a single situation connects, not one dialogue is noteworthy. In fact, the internet lingo of the protagonists irritates. Everything feels utterly random; one is never able to figure out why the lovers came together or why they broke up. The one requirement of any love story is that viewers should feel for the lovers. Here you want to give them a tight slap for being stupid. The bushy-browed Armaan has no charm. Deeksha seems more confident and self-assured, but still has miles to go. Even Rahman’s music is not able to rise above the film and the song Mawwali Qawwali is ludicrously inserted and choreographed. The half-baked take on “maovaad” and “naxalvaad” and dropping names like Bastar and Dantewada make the film even more stupid than it would have ever aimed to be.
