The Supreme Court, on Monday, invalidated the early release granted by the Gujarat government to the 11 convicts sentenced to life for the gangrape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of her family during the 2002 riots. While the judgement has got everyone talking, actress Kangana Ranaut took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that she has a script ready on Bilkis Bano’s life. However, no major studio or OTT platform has shown interest in bankrolling the project.

It all started with a fan tagging Kangana in a post where she talked about ‘dedicating her life to women empowerment films.’ The fan asked her if she would be ‘interested in telling the story of Bilkis Bano with a powerful movie?’ The actress replied quickly and shared her willingness to make a film on Bilkis Bano. She also revealed that the film’s script is ready but no top studio is ready to back the project.

She wrote, “I want to make that story I have the script ready, researched and worked on it for three years but @netflix , @amazonIN and other studios wrote back to me that they have clear guidelines they don’t do so called politically motivated films, @JioCinema said we don’t work with Kangana because she supports BJP and Zee is going through a merger, what are my options?”

In her earlier tweet, Kangana had earlier lashed out at the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Animal’ for being misogynist. She also slammed the audience for going to theatres to watch ‘women beating films.’ Calling this trend ‘discouraging’, she hinted at a possible career shift in the coming years.

She wrote, “Paid negativity for my films is overwhelming, I have been fighting hard so far but even audiences are encouraging women beating films where they are treated like sex objects and asked to lick shoes. This is deeply discouraging for someone who has been dedicating her life for woman empowerment films, might shift career in coming years, want to give best years of my life to something worthwhile.”

Kangana was last seen in ‘Tejas’, which tanked at the box office.
