The day kicked off with football fans celebrating as Lionel Messi scored twice to guide Inter Miami CF to a 2-1 win over Nashville in their MLS 2025 clash. At Lord’s, Day 3 of the India vs England 3rd Test saw a heated verbal exchange between Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley over time-wasting tactics, to which the cricket fraternity reacted. In women’s basketball, the Los Angeles Aces edged the Golden State Valkyries 104-102. IOA President PT Usha formed a fact-finding panel to probe the delay in BFI elections. The 23-year-old specially apologised to her mother for making a rare trip to watch her daughter play in person.

“My mom is the most selfless person I know, and she’s done everything to get me to this point in my life,” said Anisimova, whose father died in 2019 when she was 17. (AP)

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has voiced concerns about the extreme heat conditions players are enduring at the expanded Club World Cup in the United States, calling them “dangerous".

“Honestly, the heat is incredible,” Fernandez said Friday. “The other day I got a little dizzy during a play. I had to lie down on the ground because I was really dizzy. Playing in this temperature in very dangerous.”

Tempers flared at Lord’s as Zak Crawley appeared to delay play with a hand injury, prompting sarcastic applause from Jasprit Bumrah and visible frustration from skipper Shubman Gill. KL Rahul called the tactic “understandable” from an opener’s view, while England’s Tim Southee dismissed it as “part of the game.”

Southee also took a subtle dig at Shubman Gill when asked about the Indian captain’s reaction to Zak Crawley’s delaying tactic. Referring to Gill lying down for treatment earlier in the day, Southee said:

“Not sure what they were complaining about when Gill was lying down getting a massage in the middle of the day yesterday. It’s obviously part of the game.”
