Wimbledon 2025: Jannik Sinner Continues Dominant Campaign Against Pedro Martinez

Sinner has yet to drop a set at the 2025 Championships and has only given up 17 games through his first three matches

Jannik Sinner punches the air after converting match point.

Jannik Sinner reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon in record-breaking fashion, beating Pedro Martinez 6-1 6-3 6-1 in the third round on Centre Court.

Sinner has yet to drop a set at the 2025 Championships and has only given up 17 games through his first three matches.

That is the fewest games lost by any man en route to the last 16 in the Open Era, with Roger Federer setting the previous record when winning the tournament in 2004 (19).

Sinner was helped by an injury that hampered Martinez from the start. The Spaniard, who was wearing strapping on his right shoulder, called the trainer on after losing the first five games of the encounter.

Having struggled badly with his first serve as a result of that issue, Martinez drew cheers from the crowd as he avoided the bagel, but Sinner wrapped up the opener in 37 minutes – five of which were because of the medical timeout.

Martinez looked more assured on serve in the second set and even had four opportunities to break back at 4-3 down, but Sinner took three of the five break points he generated to surge into a 2-0 lead.

Despite his improvement, Martinez was in danger of being bageled in the third set, with Sinner bringing up his first two match points at 5-0.

Martinez saved both to force the Italian to finish the job on his own serve, which he did with a pair of booming aces.

The world number one will face Grigor Dimitrov or Sebastian Ofner in the fourth round, as he remains on course for a semi-final showdown with Novak Djokovic.

Speaking on court afterwards, Sinner said: "I'm very happy with the win, but we saw that Martinez was struggling.

"When you don't serve well on this surface, it is hard. Huge respect to him, to come out here and compete.

"Every time you enter a grand slam in the first week, it is special, even more so at Wimbledon. We are trying to keep pushing, but this week could not have gone better for me."

Data Debrief: Sinner untouchable

As well as breaking Federer's record for the fewest games dropped en route to round four, Sinner maintained his supreme record against players from outside the ATP top 50.

He has won his last 38 matches against such opponents, since losing to Dusan Lajovic in Cincinnati (last 32) in 2023.

Sinner is also now the only Italian in the Open Era to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon on four occasions, having previously been level on three with Matteo Berrettini.
