Tejaswin Shankar Live Updates, Commonwealth Games Decathlon: Indian Smashes Discus PB to Stay In Medal Hunt

Tejaswin Shankar came very close to achieving a height of 4.40m. However, the positive news for him is that Sammy Ball also did not clear 4.70m, resulting in a 13-point gap between third and fourth place after 8 events.

In his second attempt, the Indian successfully clears a height of 4.30 metres, bringing his current score to 702 points.

Tejaswin successfully clears 4.10m, earning 645 points on his initial attempt. Victor is aiming for 4.40m (and continues to progress), just like Warner; Ball has achieved a clearance of 4.50m, which scores him 760 points.

He hasn't begun jumping yet. However, this is one of his less strong events: achieving a personal best (similar to what he did in the discus and long jump) would be quite beneficial here as he aims to stay competitive with Lindon and Warner.

Tejaswin Shankar's decathlon journey reaches its next phase with the pole vault event. Meanwhile, Dinesh Kumar and Navneet Singh are set to compete in bowls at 5:15 PM, facing off against the Falkland Islands duo of Ian Barnes and Oliver Thompson.

Tejaswin Shankar is on fire! The Indian decathlete has produced another personal best in the discus, improving from his second throw and then smashing the 40m barrier for the first time in his career with a superb 40.44m effort.

The throw brings 674 points and takes him to 5935 points overall. After a measurement revision reduced Lindon Victor’s total to 5885, Tejaswin is now 50 points ahead of Victor and just three points behind leader Damian Warner. The decathlon battle is incredibly close, and Tejaswin is right in the thick of it.

Tejaswin Shankar is having a sensational decathlon! The Indian star has produced another personal best, throwing 39.66m in the discus to earn 658 points.

After his long jump PB on Day 1, this is yet another career-best effort, and it comes in one of the events that is usually considered a weaker area for him. The throw helps Tejaswin stay third overall in the decathlon standings and keeps him firmly in the medal hunt.

A different look for Tejaswin Shankar this morning, the sunglasses are gone, and the Indian decathlete looks all business as he takes his place in Heat 2 of the 110m hurdles.

The athletes settle into the blocks, and they’re off.

Tejaswin gets away well and stays stride for stride with Damian Warner for much of the race. The Canadian finds another gear over the final few hurdles, but Tejaswin produces a solid finish to take second place in 14.41 seconds.

It’s not quite his personal best of 14.07s, but it still brings in a healthy 922 points. Warner wins the heat in 14.04s, earning 969 points and slightly increasing his overall advantage.

India’s Tejaswin Shankar finished Day 1 of the men’s decathlon at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in second position with 4,339 points, staying just behind Canada’s Damian Warner, who led the standings with 4,353 points after five events.

Shankar began with 870 points in the 100m (10.96s) before producing a personal best of 7.82m in the long jump, earning 1,015 points and moving up the standings. He added 673 points in shot put (13.09m) before delivering a strong performance in his signature high jump event, clearing 2.15m for 944 points despite managing a knee issue.

In the final event of Day 1, the 400m, Shankar clocked 49.51s to collect 837 points and end the day in medal contention. The Indian decathlete will return on Day 2 for the remaining five events -- 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500m -- as he aims to secure a podium finish.
