World record-holder Armand Duplantis is set to headline the opening meet of the Diamond League 2026 in Shanghai/Keqiao on Saturday, May 16.

Popularly known as “Mondo,” the Swedish pole vault star will begin his season in a star-studded field that also features Faith Kipyegon, Karsten Warholm, Letsile Tebogo and Tobi Amusan, promising a blockbuster start to the new campaign.

India’s Parul Chaudhary is the only Indian in the start list and will feature in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.

The national record-holder in the women’s 3000m, 5000m and 3000m steeplechase comes into the meet with a personal best of 9:12.46 and will be making her third appearance in a Diamond League event.

Parul, the reigning Asian Games 5000m champion, finished 16th in Eugene in 2024 and improved to sixth place in Doha last year. In Shanghai, she faces a strong field that includes reigning world champion Faith Cherotich, former world champion Norah Jeruto and former Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai.

The Diamond League 2026 season will span four continents and 15 cities, culminating in a two-day final in Brussels. With no Olympic Games or World Athletics Championships scheduled this year, the Diamond League takes centre stage as one of track and field’s biggest events on the global calendar.

The series offers a total prize purse of $9.24 million and serves as a key build-up to the season-ending Ultimate Championships in Budapest from September 11–13.

Among the highlights in Shanghai, the pole vault and discus events will each feature seven of the world’s top 10-ranked athletes, while the women’s shot put brings together the world’s top six throwers.

The opening meet will also see a much-anticipated showdown in the women’s sprint hurdles between world champions, along with a fast men’s 100m field featuring leading American and African sprinters. The main session at the China Textile City Sports Center begins at 7:04 pm local time.
