Kerala Blasters secured a 3-0 win over Sporting Club Delhi in today's first Group D match at the GMC Bambolim Stadium. David Obieta's brace and Korou Singh's acrobatic effort was enough to see the Tuskers get all 3 points.
Mumbai City FC must win this game against Rajasthan United FC in order to keep their semi-final hopes alive. The equation is simple: get 3 points tonight and meet Kerala Blasters for a virtual quarter-final match on Thursday, November 6.
We are underway for the all important Group D match between Rajasthan United FC and Mumbai City FC at the JLN stadium in Fatorda. Mumbai (in blue) will start from right to left and Rajasthan (in pink) will start from left to right in this first-half. Remember, this is a must win game for MCFC to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
Rajasthan have defended well to counter all the attacks from Mumbai, who have controlled the tempo of the game so far. Petr Kratky would want his side to gain an early lead here.
Excellent defending by Rajasthan FC, who are doubling on the Mumbai City forwards. The Islanders, despite having much of the ball, haven't been able to release a shot as of yet with Rajasthan registering 3 already.
Plenty of back and forth here between Rajasthan and Mumbai but none of them have been really able to open up the opposing defence and create a scoring avenue.
Rajasthan United FC appear to be knocking on the door as they created a very good scoring opportunity from a corner. Hudu's shot, off a rebound, was sent in with purpose, but the offside flag was raised. Blandon Rendon, too, had a great chance but his shot was blocked by Tiri Augustine.
5 of Rajasthan players on the field today have very minimal experience of playing professional football, yet they have caused a lot of problems here for Mumbai, who will be unhappy to not have opened the scoring in the first 30 minutes.
The tension is building up as we approach half-time in Fatorda. The referee has already given a couple of yellow cards and Rajasthan have easily been the best side so far.
And Rajasthan United FC's relentless pressing and attacks have finally paid off. Robinson Blandon with a screamer to break the deadlock and open the scoring late into the first-half. Blandon released a left-footed shot right from the edge of the box and TP Rehenesh will feel that he could have done better. Sharp finish by Blandon.
Petr Kratky is an unhappy man as he heads into the tunnel with evident frustration and anger, but what a first-half it was from Rajasthan United FC. They pressed better, defended better, attacked better and deserved to go 1-0 up. Mumbai City will not be happy with their efforts. We are up for a huge second-half in Fatorda as the Islanders will be aiming to stage a comeback win. Stay tuned.
Rajasthan: 2 on target from a total of 5 shots with 2 corners. 7 fouls and 2 yellow cards.
Mumbai: 1 on target from a total of 3 shots with 1 corner. 8 fouls and 1 yellow card.
The players are back on the field and Mumbai City start the 2nd half with an intent to stage a comeback win against Rajasthan FC, who will hope to sustain their performance from the 1st half.
Mumbai City FC are pushing for the equalizer, but Rajasthan United FC are making it very difficult for them. The agitation is evident among the Mumbai players as we enter the final 30 minutes of the match. The Islanders haven't been able to create a numerical advantage in any part of the pitch.
Mumbai had an opportunity to level the score but Brandon Fernandes fails to get the header right from Akash Mishra's cross from the left-wing. The Islanders are not giving up yet.
Lallianzuala Chhangte squanders another chance for Mumbai City FC. The skipper had a tough chance, without a doubt, but in such a situation, you've got to score those. He was put through from the centre with a looping ball in and Chhangte had two options: either poke the header in or square it for Brandon Fernandes. He couldn't do none.
We are just 10 minutes away from the regulation time and Mumbai City FC are still searching for their first and equalizing goal. The chances are coming in but the Islanders haven't got the finishing touch. Petr Kratky looks on with sheer frustration.
6 minutes have been added to the clock. Mumbai City had 3 good chances wasted in the last 10 minutes, and the time is running out for them quickly.
Job done for Rajasthan United FC as they stun Mumbai City FC by 1-0 in a rainy evening at the JLN stadium in Fatorda. A forgettable night for Petr Kratky and his men, who had their chances in the 2nd half but nothing materialized. Rajasthan had an answer to every question thrown by Mumbai, who lacked creativity and got exposed. 3 points for RUFC.
This 1-0 loss means that Mumbai City FC will have to register a huge 4-0 or 5-0 win over Kerala Blasters if they want to go through to the semi-finals of the Super Cup. Mumbai could have gone level on points with Kerala (6) today but they end up finding themselves with 3 points and 2 behind in the goal difference metric. As for Rajasthan, they also have slim chances. If they beat Sporting Delhi in their last game by a big margin, they can potentially qualify for the semis, depending on the goal difference.
