The first half was a cagey, tactical affair that ended goalless despite early Dutch pressure. The second half exploded into life when Virgil van Dijk headed the Oranje in front in the 51st minute. Japan responded through Keito Nakamura's low drive, only for Crysencio Summerville to restore the Dutch lead with a brilliant curling effort. However, the resilient Samurai Blue fought back a second time, equalising in the 89th minute when Daichi Kamada nodded home a header. This result added a fresh chapter to their World Cup history, following the Netherlands' tight 1-0 group-stage win over Japan in 2010. The draw leaves both teams level on one point in Group F, ahead of the group's second match between Sweden and Tunisia. Up next, the Dutch will seek their first win against Sweden, while Japan face Tunisia on Saturday.
