The referee blows his whistle, and Mohun Bagan get the ball rolling in this Round 2 fixture. MBSG are playing their iconic maroon-green, while Chennaiyin players are wearing their away white kit.
Most of the opening match has been played in the Chennaiyin FC half, with the Mohun Bagan players enjoying easy posession and putting some pressure on the opposition. However, the Marina Machans show how dangerous they are as Hnamte's through is inches from reaching Martin, who is pressured by two defenders.
A Mohun Bagan corner from the right is flicked on towards the right side, where Edmun takes a first-time half-volley. He does pretty well too but can't keep it down, and it flies just over the cross bar.
Mohun Bagan have continued their dominance of posession, and the ball finds it way to Petaratos. The Aussie striker has a good shot from the edge of the box, and it's creeping into the bottom corner. Nawaz gets down quickly and parries it behind for a corner.
Concern for Chennaiyin FC as Nawaz is down for a long time after a clash with Mehtab. The other players take this time to get some hydration in as the physios attend the Chennaiyin goalkeeper. Lobera looks pretty relaxed talking to his players.
It's a real shame with the stretcher coming on for Nawaz. Chennaiyin are forced into a concussion substitution as Samik Mitra comes on in between the sticks. Again, a real shame, as Nawaz had been solid in the early stage of the match.
As expected, there is a healthy chunck of stoppage time – four minutes – being added on due to Nawaz's injury stoppage. Can Mohun Bagan convert their dominance of the ball into something tangible in this time?
Mohun Bagan take the lead with what seems like the last kick of the half!! It was route one football from the Mariners. After winning the ball, Thapa threads a long pass that finds the run of Maclaren. The Austrlaian had kept himself onside and then curls it past Samik, finding the back of the net.
The referee blows his whistle to get the second half underway at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. No changes for either side at the break.
Mohun Bagan have picked up from where they left off, with the strikers twice going around Samik but failing to pull the trigger. Chennaiyin have a rare chance up top, winning a corner, but it's offside.
With time running out, Clifford Miranda turns towards his bench and makes a triple substitution. Eduardo Kau replaces Inigo Martin, while Farukh and Gurkirat come on in places of Imran and Hnamte, respectively.
Dimi is back, and he is back among the goals!! There's the familian celebration from the previously out-of-favour striker, and it surely seals the contest for Mohun Bagan. A good cross from Subhasish from the left, which took a deflection on its way to Petratos. He adjusted well and then slotted it in past the goalkeeper.
With time being on their side, Lobera makes a triple change. Aldred, Manvir, and Amey Ranawade come on. Making way are Robinho, Mehtab, and Subhasish.
More changes for the Mariners as Sahal Abdul Samad comes on for Liston Colaco. Chennaiyin FC players, meanwhile, look to be really clammed up in their own half and have gone in damage control mode.
The referee blows the final whistle to put Chennaiyin FC out of their misery, and Mohun Bagan move level on points with league leaders and arch rivals East Bengal. A solid performance and solid win for the Mariners.
