June 14 Encore! Super Sub Diallo Helps Ivory Coast Celebrate Triumphant World Cup Return - Relive Action

Ivory Coast Vs Ecuador Match Photos, FIFA World Cup 2026: In their historic first-ever meeting, Ivory Coast marked their triumphant return to the FIFA World Cup after a 12-year absence with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Ecuador at the Philadelphia Stadium. Coincidentally, on this very day (June 14) in 2014, the Elephants played the opening match of their last World Cup campaign, defeating Japan 2-1 before later exiting in heartbreak. Fast forward: substitute Amad Diallo broke the deadlocked Group E tie in the 90th minute, curling in a first-time strike from a Wilfried Singo pass to snap Ecuador's 19-match unbeaten streak. Ecuador controlled much of the tempo but fell short despite possessing South America's most solid qualifying defense. With Germany thrashing Curacao 7-1 early in the day, Ivory Coast currently sit second in Group E on goal difference. Next up, they face group favourites Germany on June 20, while Ecuador look to bounce back against debutants Curacao.
