The pre-game ceremony has started, with a smoke show and a singing performance taking place at the Lumen Field. Expect kick-off in a few minutes.
Referee Juan Calderon blows his whistle, and the Leagues Cup final is underway! Inter Miami get the ball rolling, so stay tuned for live updates.
A foul from De Paul near the midfield leads to the first big chance for Seattle. The ball is recycled in midfield and crossed into the box, and Ragen heads it towards the onrushing Ferriera, but Ustari is alert and collects the ball. Otherwise, it would have been an easy tap in.
After a much stronger start from Seattle Sounders, Inter Miami have grown into the contest, and Jordi Alba almost found a teammate with a cross from outside the box, but the defence cleared somehow. Meanwhile, loud boos across the stadium whenever Messi is on the ball.
Seattle Sounders' high press works as Ustari does not get time to play the ball to Falcon, leading to a corner. However, the Herons clear the danger. It's a fiery start to this match, worthy of a final.
Meanwhile, Messi and Suarez almost play the perfect one-two inside the box, but Vargas does well to slide in and clear the ball. Warning signs from Inter Miami...
Despite having one-third of the ball, Seattle are looking the more dangerous of the two sides when going forward. Falcon looks to be a in spot of bother after clearing a ball into the box, although the defender looks alright to continue.
The first real chance for Inter Miami as Rodrigo de Paul found himself in the box. He has a powerful shot at near post, but Ragen comes sliding in to put it behind. It had the be perfect, and it really was.
Nothing comes from the resulting corner as Thomas grabs the ball inside the box.
What a move from Seattle Sounders!! Inter give away a free-kick near the halfway line, and the host take the ball and play it with lethal pace. Ferreira feeds it to Alex Roldan on the right flank, and he crosses it with pace and power into the box, and all De Rosario has to do is head it goalwards, which he does, and Seattle are ahead!
Miami have a corner kick, which Messi floats into the box. There's chaos in the box, and Seattle somehow manage to clear it in the second attempt, but Vargas gets hurt in the process. He is alright to continue. Still no shots on target for Inter Miami...
Inter Miami are really struggling to get anything going attack-wise at the moment. De la Vega brought out a save from Ustari, and the Herons manage to clear from the resulting corner. Three shots on target from Seattle, none from Inter Miami.
What a chance for Seattle!! The hosts do well to hold off against the Inter defenders, and then play it to Ferreira on the edge of the box. The USMNT striker shoots low from the edge of the box, and it crashes against the woodwork before coming back to the grateful gloves of Ustari. So, so unlucky!
Messi has his first attempt at the Seattle goal, and it comes from a free-kick 20 yards away. However, the effort is high over the bar. The Seattle fans behind the goal loved the miss!
Just one minute of added time at the end of the regulation 45 minutes. Inter had a half chance through De Paul, but Yeimar did well to clear the danger with a diving header.
What a first half performance from Seattle Sounders, who totally deserve to go into the break with a lead. They should have had two goals, but the woodwork came to the Herons' rescue. Half time at Lumen Field, Seattle Sounders one, Inter Miami nil.
Both sets of players are out on the pitch. The game is perfectly poised, with just one goal separating both sides. Stay tuned for the second half!
No changes at half-time as far as I can see.
Inter Miami have started the second half strongly as well, dominating the ball. However, Seattle's high press is resulting in the ocassional loss of possession in midfield, and the hosts are waiting for a mistake to counter.
Oh no, what a miss from Messi!! Jordi Alba squares the ball from the left flank to Suarez, and the Uruguayan turns and feeds Messi. Alone in the box and under absolutely no pressure, Messi skies it with his left foot from five yards out. Mascherano, and Messi himself, can't believe that the chance was not burried by the player!
Inter Miami's pressure is forcing errors from Seattle players in the middle of the park, and the Herons are pushing hard for an early equaliser. However, they have to be careful, with Seattle still a danger on the counter.
Meanwhile, Mascherano opts for a change, bringing on Telasco Segovia in place of Gonzalo Lujan.
How did Allende miss that?!?! Suarez plays a world-class back pass to free the Argentine winger. One on one against the goalkeeper, with the entire goal to aim at, Allende went for the far corner, and it went wide. He goes down on the pitch, hiding his face. The biggest chance of the game so far, and it goes begging.
A couple of changes for Sounders. Kalani Rienzi and Danny Leyva come on, replacing Pedro de la Vega and Osaze de Rosario.
Rothrick drives forward and wins a corner kick, hyping up the Lumen Field crowd. The resulting corner is headed away by the defence, but Seattle win posession on the flanks. Ferreira crosses it into the box, resulting in a tame header that is cleared by the Herons, this time for good.
Another massive chance for Seattle. The ball is crossed into the box, but Ustari rushes out and punches it away, but only as far as a Seattle player, who shoots from distance. The defence attempts to clear away, but it hits Rothrocks legs and goes JUST wide. No one had much idea about it, but luck favours Inter Miami.
Meanwhile, Sergio Busquets earns the first yellow card of the match.
Rothrock is caught offside, and that allows Inter Miami to make a change, bringing on Fabrice Picault in place of Ian Fray.
Rothrock has another chance at goal, probably the best one so far for Seattle. He had made a perfectly timed run, receiving the lofted ball and then tried to beat Ustari. However, the goalkeeper had made himself big and pulled off a very important save, possibly keeping Miami in the tie.
Seattle make a change, replacing Jesus Ferreira with Georgi Minoungou. Meanwhile, Jordi Alba's ball into the box is blocked, resulting a corner kick. The ball is floated in dangerously, but Thomas does very well to catch it mid air.
Penalty!! Bright tries to stop Minougou in the box, but his sliding tackle ends up bringing the Seattle forwrad down, and the referee immidiately points to the spot.
Inter Miami players are not happy, surrounding the referee. The Herons had one of their own penalty calls waved away just a minute ago. They claimed that the ball had hit Rienzo on the arm, but the referee disagreed and awarded a corner. And now, the referee stands by the penalty call, showing a yellow card to Bright as well.
Alex Roldan steps up to take the spot kick, and it's a brilliant penalty from the midfielder. It's a long run up, and Roldan dispatches it powerfully into the corner, sending Ustari the wrong way. Seattle have one hand on the trophy!!
With less than five minutes remaining, Inter Miami push hard for a goal, but the move comes to an end when Segovia concedes a foul in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, Bright is off, and on comes Benjamin Cremaschi.
Game, set, match for Sounders! After a bit of ping-pong in the Miami half, Alex Roldan rolls a hopefull ball forward that catches the Inter Miami defence sleeping, but Rothrock is alert and runs into the box, finding the far corner with a terrific finish that gave Ustari no chance.
Just 40-odd seconds of added time played by the referee before he blows the full-time whistle. And... Seattle Sounders are the Leagues Cup 2025 champions!! What a performance from the home side, completely blowing away Inter Miami with their fast-paced counter-attacking football.
It's all blowing up at Lumen Field, with both sets of players clashing in the field. One of the Inter Miami players, seemed like Suarez, threw a volley of punches towards a Sounders player, before being wrestled to the ground.
