The match gets underway in Suzhou after the national anthems and other customary pre-game formalities. India are kicking from right to left and China the other way in the first half.
China come close to scoring the opener, rattling India's crossbar. Thankfully for the visitors, the ball does not bounce inside the goalline and the threat is averted. The Young Tigresses launch a quick counter in response but the Chinese goalie easily wards it off.
China are on the prowl again, lurking near and inside the Indian box with wave after wave of attacking move. India's custodian Munni does well to punch away an incoming cross that could have been dangerous.
China's early pressure pays off. Liu Yuxi squares it off for Huang Qinyi, who does the rest at the goalmouth as India's defence for once stands exposed. The Steel Roses have the lead in the 38th minute.
China added a second goal at the stroke of half-time! Ritu Badaik fouls Liu Yuxi in the box, and the referee points to the spot. Yuxi herself steps up for the penalty, and Munni anticipates incorrectly to see the ball thudding into the back of the net. India well and truly have their backs against the wall after the first half.
The players are back from the mid-game interval and the second half kicks off. India attacking from left to right now and China the other way. One substitution for the Young Tigresses: Olivia Chanu Ningthoujam comes in for fellow midfielder Julan Nongmaithem.
India make a couple of more substitutions, bringing in Anwita Raghuraman for fellow forward Joya and Bonifilia Shullai for midfielder Thandamoni Baskey. The way the game is progressing, the Young Tigresses need something truly special to turn the tide from here.
It is time now for last match's hero, Pritika Barman, to leave the pitch. She is replaced by Anushka Kumari in the midfield as coach Pamela Conti tries whatever she can to change things up.
There comes the victory-sealing third goal from China. Li Qixian finds enough space at the goalmouth to shoot past Munni and find the back of the net. The Chinese players erupt in an elaborate, rehearsed celebration as they know they are headed to the semis and the World Cup. Four minutes added as stoppage time to the second half, meanwhile.
There comes the final whistle. India go down 0-3 to China and bow out of the tournament in the quarters, and with it their World Cup dream comes crashing down as well. No shame in losing to a team as strong as China, however; the hosts were a superior side from start to finish.
