Haiti Vs Scotland: World Cup Joy For Returning Tartan Army, Despair For Debutants Grenadiers In Group C
Scotland ended a painful 36-year wait to secure their first FIFA World Cup victory since 1990 by defeating a resilient Haiti 1-0 at the Boston Stadium on Saturday, June 13. The Tartan Army-backed team made history when Aston Villa captain John McGinn scored a deflected 27th-minute winner. This was their first World Cup match in 28 years. For the debutant from the Caribbean, it was absolute heartbreak. The Grenadiers fought valiantly and repeatedly threatened with raw pace and counter-attacks but lacked the final touch, leaving them empty-handed despite a heroic performance. Having pocketed all three points, Steve Clarke's men spectacularly climb to the top of Group C, capitalising, of course, on the 1-1 draw between favourites Brazil and Morocco earlier in the day. Group action returns on June 19, when Scotland meet 2022 semi-finalists Morocco, and a bruised but still proud Haiti face their ultimate test against five-time champions Brazil.
