And here we go for the first-half of this Catalan derby between Espanyol and Barcelona at the RCDE Stadium. Let's see who scores first.
Solid start from Barcelona as expected. Espanyol haven't got any chances to settle down thus far and it going to be a long match for them.
Nothing on the scoresheet as of yet but the deadlock will be broken very soon. Espanyol have had 4 shot attempts so far, more than Barca's 1 attempted strike.
La Blaugrana's passing rate is outstanding. 25 minutes in, 218 passes and 91% accuracy.
Half an hour has passed by at the RCDE Stadium as Barcelona keep trying to push for the opening goal but it hasn't come yet. The league leaders have been quite rusty especially in the final third.
Despite the way Barcelona are operating with quick touches and passes, it has been Espanyol who have had a slightly better attacking edge. They just took their 5th corner of the opening half.
It remains 0-0 at half-time in the Catalan Derby, both teams had loads of chances but none could convert one into goal.

Espanyol in action right away as Pere Milla struck a shot but it went over the bar. It will be interesting to see what Barca does now after the half-time talk.
Espanyol are really trying hard to find the opening goal and in the last 10 minutes or so, they are looking like a better side than their counterparts. Tyrhys Dolan took an attempt on goal following a beautiful assist by his goalkeeper.
Barcelona make a few changes - Dani Olmo in for Raphinha and Pedri comes on for Gerard Martin. Let's see if they can have any impact on the game.
Pedri went close to scoring but he couldn't keep his shot down. A good ball in from Lamine Yamal but Hansi Flick is unhappy with his team's efforts at the moment.
We are into the final 10 minutes of the 2nd half and Barcelona are moments away from dropping points and handing Real Madrid, somewhat, a little bit of advantage.
Wow. What did we just witness. Stellar stuff from the title contenders as their substitutes do the job for them. Dani Olmo first broke the deadlock in 86th minute and 4 minutes later, Robert Lewandowski scored to make it 2-0.
Absolutely no way for Espanyol now. They did everything possible, but it wasn't meant to be.
That's it. Barcelona kick-off 2026 with a gritty 2–0 victory over rivals Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium. With this, La Blaugrana go six points clear of title challengers Real Madrid.
