Summary
  • Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. has been named in Portugal’s Under-17 squad by head coach Filipe Ramos

  • The 16-year-old moves up after representing Portugal at Under-15 and Under-16 level

  • Cristianinho has played 13 matches for Portugal’s youth sides and scored five goals

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. has earned his first call-up to the Portugal Under-17 team, marking a fresh step in the 16-year-old's international rise. Head coach Filipe Ramos has picked him in Portugal's squad for the upcoming UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers.

The selection matters because it moves Ronaldo Jr. into a higher age group after appearances at Under-15 and Under-16 level. It also draws more attention to the teenager, who is already closely watched because of his father's standing in world football.

Youth Career Record

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is popularly known as Cristianinho. He has already represented Portugal at Under-15 and Under-16 level since making his debut in 2025.

He has played 13 matches across the two age groups and scored five goals. That tally includes two goals in four Under-15 appearances and three in nine outings for the Under-16 side.

He now plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr's youth team. Like his father, he is developing his game at the Riyadh-based club.

Qualifying Fixtures Schedule

Portugal open their qualifying campaign against Andorra on November 11. They then face Bulgaria before taking on Serbia three days later.

All three matches will be played at Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras. The venue is the Portuguese Football Federation's training headquarters.

Portugal are in Group 6 with Andorra, Bulgaria and Serbia. The top two teams move into League A in the second round of qualifying. The 2027 European Championship will be held in Latvia, where eight teams will compete for the title.

Father's International Future

The call-up comes as Ronaldo Sr.'s Portugal future remains unclear. Jorge Jesus left him unused against Norway in September, and that triggered a dispute with the Portugal head coach.

Ronaldo accused Jesus of going back on promises over his playing time. The fallout led to a 30-day suspension and a fine for the 41-year-old.

Even so, he remains in contention for a return to the national side. Portugal next face Denmark on November 14 and Wales on November 17, with Jesus expected to name the squad on November 6.
