The Round of 32 clash between Colombo and Ghana is officially underway at Kansas City Stadium. As the match kicks off, Ghana takes the opening touch to get things started.
Play has been stopped before a Colombia throw-in as Cordoba is down in pain on the other side of the pitch after a collision with Opoku. Holding the inside of his leg, the striker is being treated by the medical staff, who quickly inform Lorenzo that a substitution will be needed.
Goaaalll...! Colombia draw the first blood as Jhon Arias gets a cross from Luis Suarez inside the box and the former pounces on it and fires it into the bottom right corner. Colombia is 1-0 up in the match.
Despite their attacking firepower, Colombia's biggest strength in this tournament has been their strong defence, conceding only once so far. Breaking down Néstor Lorenzo's well-organized side will require something special, but their opponents still have time to fight back
Colombia's Johan Mojica heads a cross towards the left side of the post but the goalkeeper manages to save the ball to deny Colombia second goal of the match. The referee blows the whistle and with it the stoppage time comes to an end. Both set of players are heading back to their respective locker rooms for the halftime break.
Colombia celebrate as they Suarez steals a ball from Ghana's possession inside their half and passes to Diaz via Arias, who finished it into the goal. However, Colombia's celebrations are cut short as the referee goes for the VAR and the goal is disallowed because of offside.
Ghana's Thomas Partey missed a chance as he kicks a rebound just wide of the left post. The ball is out of play and Colombia gets a goal kick.
Davinson Sanchez creates an opportunity as he times a perfect header off a corner but he guides way too straight in the post in the hands of the goalkeeper.
That's the final whistle by the referee and with it the stoppage times comes to an end. The match is done and dusted and Colombia makes it to the next round by beating Ghana by 1-0, courtesy of a 14th minute strike by Jhon Arias.
That's a wrap! That's a wrap from our end, we'll be back soon with another blog, until then, bye bye.
