Hello, football fans! This is the start of our live blog covering Atalanta’s trip to Munich to face Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 match. Stay tuned for pre-match updates and line-ups as they are announced.
Bayern Munich essentially secured their place in the quarter-finals with a dominant 6–1 victory over Atalanta in the first leg in Bergamo. The German side took control early, with Josip Stanisic opening the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by two clinical strikes from Michael Olise and a goal from Serge Gnabry to make it 3–0 before half-time. Bayern’s relentless pressure continued after the break, as Nicolas Jackson and Jamal Musiala added to the tally, while Olise completed his brace to round off a historic performance for the visitors.
The result marked the heaviest home defeat ever suffered by an Italian team in the Champions League knockout stages. While Atalanta struggled to cope with Bayern's intensity for most of the match, they managed to find a late consolation goal through Mario Pasalic in stoppage time. Despite that late strike, the five-goal deficit leaves the Italian side facing an unprecedented challenge at the Allianz Arena, as no team in the history of the competition has ever overturned such a margin in the second leg.
Leonard Prescott is a 16-year-old American-born goalkeeper who currently plays for Bayern Munich's U19 team. Standing at an impressive 1.96 meters (6'5"), he is considered one of the most exciting young talents in the club’s academy. Prescott was born in New York City but moved to Germany at a young age, starting his youth career at Union Berlin before joining Bayern in 2023.
He has gained significant media attention recently due to an unprecedented goalkeeping crisis at Bayern. With Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, and Leon Klanac all injured, and Jonas Urbig recovering from a concussion, Prescott was placed on standby for the Champions League Round of 16. If he starts tonight's match against Atalanta, he will make history as the youngest goalkeeper to ever play in the Champions League.

The match is underway with Bayern Munich attacking left to right while Atalanta attacking from right to left. Both sides are in their home kits. Atalanta have a five goal deficit and hence, they make their urgency clear from the first minute. Bayern, although hit back immediately.
Bayern look to take control early in the game and they launch attacks straightaway. Goretzka pinches possession on halfway to quickly link up with Karl and Kane, who slips Guerreiro into the box. Bayern's makeshift number 10 shoots first-time, but he's always stretching to do so and Sportiello makes a comfortable save!
Drama in Allianz Arena. Kane meets Guerreiro's left-sided cross on the volley, only for a block by Scalvini to send the ball, behind for a corner. The Bayern captain claims the ball struck the defender's hand, however, and after multiple VAR replays, the spot-kick is given. Sportiello saves the first shot but referee identifies that he stepped out from the line when the shot was being taken and pointed at a retake. Second time Harry Kane doesn't commit an error and converts providing Bayern the lead.
Karl cuts inside from the right with one eye on extending Bayern's six-goal advantage, but the teenager can't get enough curl behind his strike as it sails wide of Sportiello's left post.
Bayern Munich are dominant on Atalanta now and the visitors are finding no way to bring the ball up the field. Hosts meanwhile, are keeping them under pressure. Stanisic tees up Goretzka on the edge of Atalanta's box, but the midfielder can't return the favour and sends a first-time strike straight over the top.
Earlier, Karl slipped a pass through to Pavlovic. He shot from just inside the area, but Hien made a brave block and Atalanta cleared their lines.
Urbig is finally forced into action. Sulemana's wide pass allows De Ketelaere to break down the right, and after his low cross is blocked, Bellanova sends in a second attempt. Scalvini's header back across goal gives Pasalic space to shoot from close range, but Urbig closes the gap quickly and parries it behind at his near post. With this the first half has come to an end. The tie is effectively sealed with Bayern Munich ahead of six goals. It will be a matter to see if Atalanta can show some spark while departing.
Atalanta ended the first half brightly, and start the second on top too, as Ederson drives forward through the Munich midfield. He links up with De Ketelaere, who crosses towards Scamacca from the right, and the striker's acrobatic finish is fired straight into Urbig's gloves.
A moment of brilliance from Bayern Munich and Harry Kane and they double their lead. It's an absolute beauty from the Bayern captain, following good work from Stanisic down the right. His first cross is blocked, so the Croatian plays a one-two with Karl before cutting the ball back to Kane, who holds off Hien and turns away from Sulemana before blasting a thumper of a strike beyond Sportiello and into the top corner. It's 2–0 to Bayern with an 8–1 aggregate lead to boot.
Lennart Karl finally gets the reward of his hard work throughout the game. Ofli is thrust straight into the action, surging forward before playing the ball across to Kane. He does likewise for Diaz, who has Karl in support, and the 18-year-old arrives onto the final pass with a first-time finish beyond Sportiello into the far corner! He makes it 3–0 to open up a 9–1 lead on aggregate. Bayern Munich are rattling the Atalanta defence now.
Atalanta show a bit of spark to inject some momentum. After Sulemana's attempted cutback from the left flicks up and glances the hand of Kim Min-Jae, Atalanta want a penalty and a check ensues. Play is halted as a result, but it's soon judged to be a natural arm position and so there's no spot-kick forthcoming for the visitors. Soon after, Bellanova beats Ofli around the outside and stands up a high, hanging cross towards the far post, which Bernasconi meets with a first-time volley that he fires well wide.
Luis Diaz gets in on the goalscoring act for Die Roten following a fantastic ball forward from Karl, which releases the Colombian racing in behind. He has Kossounou beaten for pace and draws Sportiello off his line, before chipping the stranded Atalanta keeper to make it 4–0! That means it's 10–1 on aggregate as Bayern's lead extends further.
Samardzic skips past Guerreiro in midfield and goes for goal from 25 yards out, but the Serbian can't repeat his Borussia Dortmund heroics and it's a simple enough save for Urbig to make.
Atalanta scored a late consolation at the end of the first leg, and La Dea do likewise in the second, after Bernasconi's cross is blocked behind for a corner by Ito. Pasalic flicks on the delivery at the near post and Samardzic makes a late run towards the back, beating Kim Min-Jae to nod past Urbig and make it 4–1.
A ruthless display from Bayern Munich and they enter the quarter final to set up a tie with Real Madrid. An aggregate score of 10-2 displays how dominant Bayern were across the two legs despite the absence of several key players. In the second leg, they controlled the game from the very beginning although Atalanta produced an improved performance. It was early in the second half when Harry Kane showed his class and Lennart Karl joined in as well, taking the game away from Atalanta. Vincent Kompany's side looks fierce favourites now and they will want to go all the way here.
