It's a magnificent atmosphere at the Emirates tonight, as the home supporters are making themselves heard before kick-off. The players emerge out of the tunnels and take their positions on the pitch, and Fulham get the ball rolling.
It has been a fairly bright start by Arsenal under the rain at the Emirates. Trossard had an early sight of goal, but his shot was dragged wide off the post. Still, the Gunners have the ball, and most of the match is being played in their opponent's half.
Lewis-Skelly, making his first-ever senior start at midfield, plays it to Saka on the right. The returning Arsenal skipper cuts inside before dropping his shoulder, leaving Jimenez down on the deck. Saka cuts it quickly across the face of goal, and Gyokeres has the easiest of tap-ins.
The Arsenal front line have looked really well-oiled tonight despite the absence of some big names with injuries. Minutes after Trossard saw his shot fly just wide off the post, Lewis-Skelly plays another perfect through ball to find Gyokeres. However, the Swedish striker was marginally offside.
Arsenal win a corner on the right, which is always a source of concern for their opponents. Saka floats in a ball towards the middle. Gabriel gets his head on it first, but Leno somehow manages to palm is just away from the danger area.
The resulting throw makes its way into the box, and Leno again fumbles the catch under pressure from Gabriel. Gyokeres' shot is saved by Leno with his legs, and Saka can't hit the target on the follow up.
Calafiori doubles the lead for Arsenal! Fulham fail to clear their lines from a Saka corner, and the posession is recycled to the winger. He links up well with Rice, who lays it off for Trossard. The Belgian drops his shoulder and floats in a ball into the box, and Calafiori leaps high to head it past Leno.
Hold on, looks like Calafiori was offside when the ball was played by Trossard. The goal won't count.
Saka nets the second goal for Arsenal! It was brilliant play from the hosts, stretching Fulham all over the pitch. Eze sees some space ahead of him and tees up Gyokeres immediately. The Swede holds up the ball and tees up Saka, who goes past Robinson and beats Leno on the near post.
Gyokeres add a late third goal right before half-time! It was a swift move from the Gunners following Fulham losing posession in front of their opponent's box. The ball is played to Trossard, who plays a cross towards the centre of the box. Gyokeres leaps high and finds the top corner.
The three minutes of stoppage time flies by, really, with Arsenal get the third goal that they were looking for. Jarred Gillett finally blows the half-time whistle to give Fulham some respite.
Second half underway at the Emirates! Arsenal back on the ball, looking to up the tempo, while Fulham stay compact and ready to hit on the break
Arsenal continue their search for goals. Gyokeres is played through with a hat‑trick in his sights, but he can’t find the power nor the precision to beat Leno. The goalkeeper races off his line brilliantly to narrow the angle, and while the Swede will feel he should have done better given how sharp he’s been today, the German stands firm to deny him.
Gyokeres won’t get his first hat‑trick in red-and-white colours, but this has still been one of his finest performances in an Arsenal shirt. Jesus is given some rare minutes to lead the line for the closing stages. He gets his first touches on the ball, and he almost finds the back of the net. It suddenly opens up for him after a neat pass threads him through, but he’d gone a fraction too early – which explains why he had so much space to attack. Leno still made the stop in any case.
Arsenal come agonisingly close to a fourth, and it comes from a set piece. The corner is whipped in from the far side and Calafiori – who’s already had the ball in the net once today – thunders a close‑range header that cannons off the bar. Replays show it takes a touch off Leno’s head on the way through, so it will go down as a save from the German rather than a miss.
A relieving victory for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal as they stay in track of title contention. They beat Fulham 3-0 and also boost their goal difference with three matches to go. They have played two matches more than Manchester City and are currently at 76 points with three matches to go. The match was decided in the first half when Viktor Gyokeres scored a brace. Bukayo Saka squeezed in another in between and Arsenal kept Fulham away in the second half to get a much-boosting clean sheet ahead of next week's Champions League return leg against Atletico Madrid. A crucial period incoming for Arsenal and they stay focused.
