Football Transfer Rumour: Barcelona, Real Madrid Set For Mini 'El Clasico' For Mexico Star

Barcelona have an interest in signing Feyenoord and Mexico star Santiago Gimenez, reports reveal just days after rumours of Real Madrid's interest in the striker had surfaced.

FC Barcelona have identified Feyenoord and Mexico star Santiago Gimenez as a potential target for a future transfer, report ESPN. Gimenez, a striker, has been prolific for the Dutch giants since the start of the 2023-24 season, scoring 13 goals in ten Eredivisie games and 15 in 12 overall. The 22-year-old is in his second season in Europe; his first saw him return 23 goals in 45 appearances immediately after moving to Feyenoord from Cruz Azul back home. (More Football News)

Barcelona, however, are not the only team chasing Gimenez. As per FIFA intermediary Morris Pagniello, Real Madrid - among other clubs - are also closely monitoring the Mexican international.

“We talked about him with Inter, Milan, Lazio and Napoli, but for me, he could be perfect for both Inter and Juventus. They would be the best options for him. I’ve been telling various clubs to believe in him, his value went from €10m to €40m in just under 12 months. Now the teams closest to him are Real Madrid and Tottenham,” Pagniello told TuttoMercato in a previous interview.

Pagniello's claims, though, were immediately refuted by Gimenez, who responded with the following statement:

"In the last few hours, statements have come out about my future that have emerged from sources far from my environment. Given this situation, I would like to clarify that I do not have a representative and that the person in charge of my career is my father with the help of Mariel.

"It is important not to take into account claims that have not been made by them or by me. I am very grateful for the understanding and support that everyone shows me every day. We have always been very open with information and know that as soon as there is any news to give, we will gladly let you know."
