Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka were up against each other on Friday, August 29 in the first of the two ODIs that the two teams are going to play at the Harare Sports Club. Zimbabwe were led by Sean Williams while Charith Asalanka was captaining the Sri Lankan side. No one imagined it to be thrilling clash but Zimbabawe put up a magnificent, however, couldn't get past the victory line, losing the match by 7 runs.

Sri Lanka posted an impressive total of 298 runs, powered by brilliant half-centuries from Pathum Nissanka, Janith Liyanage, and Kamindu Mendis. Their solid performances laid the foundation for a commanding total. For Zimbabwe, Richard Ngarava stood out with the ball, claiming 2 wickets for just 34 runs in 7.4 economical overs.

In response, Zimbabwe had a disastrous start, losing two wickets for zero in the very first over. However, Ben Curran and the seasoned Sean Williams steadied the innings with a vital 118-run partnership for the third wicket, setting up hopes for a remarkable chase. Later, Sikandar Raza played a fighting knock of 92, but it wasn’t enough as Dilshan Madushanka tore through the lower order, finishing with four wickets to seal the win for Sri Lanka.
