West Indies opened their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 account with a convincing 35-run victory over Scotland in their Group C match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, showing a strong balance of batting and bowling.
After electing to bat first, the Caribbean side posted 182 for 5, thanks largely to a blistering 64 off 36 balls from Shimron Hetmyer that steadied a slow start and set a competitive total.
Scotland’s chase never fully took off despite a lively 42 from Richie Berrington, as West Indies maintained pressure through tight bowling.
The defining moment came in the 17th over, when Romario Shepherd ran through the Scotland lineup, claiming a hat-trick as part of a superb five-wicket haul, triggering a late collapse that saw Scotland bundled out for 147 in 18.5 overs. This all-round performance gave West Indies an inspiring start to their T20 World Cup campaign.
Scotland won the toss and opted to bowl first.
