Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir are in the middle, with Monank taking guard. Ruben Trumpelmann has the new ball and will start proceedings.
A bright and confident start for USA as Monank Patel sets the tone early, finding boundaries and rotating strike smartly, while Shayan Jahangir chips in with handy support. The pair look composed against the new ball, punishing anything loose and keeping the scoreboard moving to race to 18 without loss, immediately putting the bowling side under pressure.
Monank Patel has been in sparkling touch, picking lengths early and clearing the ropes with authority, while Shayan Jahangir has matched the tempo with crisp boundaries of his own. Namibia’s new-ball plans have gone awry as anything marginally loose has disappeared, and even the good balls have been worked around to keep the pressure on. Nineteen off the over caps a dominant six overs as USA surge to 65 without loss, with Monank racing to 41 off just 21 and the opening stand already looking threatening.
Myburgh delivers a crucial blow and keeps it tight. Monank Patel, after a blazing fifty, looks to go big but miscues against the turn and holes out to long-on. Big wicket at the right time for Namibia. The new batter Sanjay Krishnamurthi gets off strike, while Mukkamalla can’t find the boundary despite a couple of attempts. Just four runs and the breakthrough, USA move to 92/2 after 11, momentum slowing a touch.
A tidy over for Namibia as they continue to squeeze in the middle phase. Just the five runs coming, with Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Milind Kumar forced to work hard for singles rather than finding the fence. The field is spread and the bowlers are sticking to disciplined lines, not offering much width or pace to free the arms. USA move to 116/3 after 14
That’s a huge over for USA. Trumpelmann misses his lengths and Sanjay Krishnamurthi makes him pay, finding the boundary and then a flat six over long-off to race to a superb fifty off just 23 balls. Milind Kumar chips in from the other end as the pressure piles on. Twenty-six runs come from it, pushing USA to 175/3 after 17, with the finish now set up nicely.
Another productive over for USA, though not quite the mayhem of the previous one. A wide starts it off before Krishnamurthi keeps the board moving, mixing smart singles with a boundary to stay in control. Milind Kumar continues to rotate strike and make sure the innings doesn’t stall. Nine from it takes the score to 189/3 after 19, and a 200-plus finish is very much in sight with one over left.
A solid final over to wrap things up. There’s a wicket in there to slow the charge, but USA still manage to find a couple of important boundaries to finish strongly. Krishnamurthi continues his impressive knock, staying busy and ensuring the total keeps climbing, while Ranjane makes a quick impact at the death. Ten from the last over sees USA close on 199/4, a commanding score that will take some chasing.
Louren Steenkamp and Jan Frylinck walk out to begin the chase, with Steenkamp taking first strike. Ali Khan has the new ball in hand and is set to get proceedings underway.
A steady start for Namibia as they pick up a boundary and keep the strike rotating. Frylinck looks the more assured of the two early on, putting away anything loose, while Steenkamp is settling in and giving him support. Eight from the over moves them to 14 without loss, a decent base as they size up the chase.
Van Schalkwyk strikes at just the right time for USA. Frylinck tries to force the pull off a hard length ball angling in, but it climbs on him and lobs straight back for a simple return catch. Big breakthrough with the stand starting to threaten. Loftie-Eaton walks in and the bowler follows up with clever changes of pace, keeping both batters down to nudges and mistimed shots. Nine from the over along with the wicket, Namibia reach 57/1 after six, and it’s a timely peg back heading into the break.
Namibia keep the chase ticking nicely. It’s been smart batting for most of the over with singles milked from nearly every delivery, before Loftie-Eaton finishes it in style by launching one over the ropes. Steenkamp is motoring along confidently and edging closer to a half-century, while the partnership continues to grow without much fuss. Eleven runs from it, and they move to 86/1, staying firmly in touch with the rate.
Saurabh Netravalkar gets rid of Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Shubham Ranjane snares Louren Steenkamp to peg Namibia back further. The asking rate is now over 13 and the task is getting more and more out of reach now for the Namibians. The USA had a late surge in their innings, though, so they would be hoping for something similar in the chase.
The wickets continue to tumble for Namibia, who lose captain Gerhard Erasmus in the 15th over. With the required run rate skyrocketing past 24, that is four runs per ball, they retire out Zane Green, who had scored 18 off 13. USA nearing a comfortable win in Chennai.
As expected, scoreboard pressure ends up being too much for Namibia and they finish with 168 for 6 in 20 overs. With that, USA complete a 31-run win and keep their Super Eight qualification hopes alive. Namibia, on the other hand, are knocked out of reckoning with three consecutive losses.
