Karachi Kings defeated Quetta Gladiators by 14 runs in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 in the match 2 of the competition at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, March 27. Despite a blistering start from the Gladiators' openers, Karachi’s experienced bowling unit, led by a masterclass from Hasan Ali, pulled the game back in the death overs.
Earlier in the evening, Quetta Gladiators won the toss and elected to field. The Kings faced an immediate crisis when Alzarri Joseph dismissed Muhammad Waseem for a duck in the opening over. However, captain David Warner (35 off 22) and Saad Baig (30) stabilized the innings with a steady partnership.
The momentum shifted decisively in the middle overs thanks to Moeen Ali, who top-scored with a commanding 48 off 29 balls. His innings, featuring three massive sixes, allowed the Kings to recover from early setbacks. A late cameo from Salman Ali Agha (22 off 10) provided the final flourish, propelling Karachi to 181/7. For Quetta, Ahmed Daniyal was the standout with the ball, returning figures of 3/36.
The Gladiators’ chase began with an explosion of boundaries. Young opener Shamyl Hussain took the Karachi attack to the cleaners, smashing a rapid 52 off just 24 deliveries. Alongside Saud Shakeel (33), Hussain helped Quetta race to 75/0 within the Powerplay, making the chase look like a mere formality.
The introduction of spin slowed the scoring rate, with Moeen Ali and Adam Zampa picking up crucial wickets to break the opening stand. As the pressure mounted, Quetta’s middle order struggled to find the boundary.
With Quetta needing 20 runs off the final two overs, Hasan Ali delivered a decisive 19th over. The veteran pacer showcased his death-bowling prowess, picking up three wickets in the over—including Hassan Nawaz and Tom Curran—to effectively end Quetta's resistance. Hasan finished with stellar figures of 4/27.
The Gladiators were restricted to 167/7, falling 14 runs short of the target. Karachi Kings’ ability to remain calm under the early onslaught from Hussain proved to be the difference, earning them their first points of the tournament.
