South Africa have just completed one of the best heists in Test cricket history. The reigning WTC champions have successfully defended 124 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
News from the centre - Pakistan have won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Rawalpindi cricket stadium.
"We are going to bowl first. It's depending on the conditions. There will be dew in the second innings. The wicket in Pindi is good for runs. We'll try to restrict them today. We have four changes. Really satisfied with the boys. Players are in good form." - Shaheen Afridi said after winning toss.
"He (Charith Asalanka) is not well, hence he is not playing. It's bit hard to bat here in the first innings. We have four changes today. We are looking to score more 290. I think 320 will be a good score. We have a very good team, everyone has done well in the last couple of tours." - Kusal Mendis said during toss time.
Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis (WK/C), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Pavan Rathnayake, Kamindu Mendis, Janith Liyanage, Pramod Madushan, Maheesh Theekshana, Eshan Malinga and Jeffrey Vandersay
Fakhar Zaman, Haseebullah Khan (WK), Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Agha, Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Afridi (C), Haris Rauf and Faisal Akram
And we are underway for the 3rd and final ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Stadium. Shaheen Afridi bowls the first over. Kamil Mishara and Pathum Nissanka come out to open for Sri Lanka.
3 overs have passed by and Kamil Mishara is looking in a great touch. He has already scored 17 off 9, including 4 fours at a strike rate of over 180. The 3rd over from Shaheen Afridi went for expensive 10 runs.
Haris Rauf strikes! Nissanka, cramped for room on a short-of-a-length delivery outside off, tries to cut but gets a thick inside edge. The ball cannoned into the stumps, and he’s gone for 24 off 27, including four fours. Rauf breaks through once again, giving his team a crucial breakthrough.
Mohammad Wasim gets both batters moving with singles, Kusal Mendis nudges one to deep backward point for a run, followed by Samarawickrama steering another to third man.
Mohammad Wasim got the 2nd Sri Lankan wicket and it's Kamil Mishara, who has to depart after a quickfire 29 off 30. Pakistan will need more of these in order to surmount more pressure on the opposition.
Sri Lanka have taken full 20 overs to complete the first 100 runs of the team. The visitors lost 2 wickets of Kamil Mishara and Pathum Nissanka in the first 20 overs and have scored runs at a rate of just 4.81.
Mohammad Wasim Jr strikes again and he gets the captain Kusal Mendis for 34 off 54. Wasim bowls a fuller length delivery and it nips inside to clean the middle stump. The 43-run partnership between Mendis and Samarawickrama ends.
Faisal Akram gets his 1st wicket of the day as Kamindu Mendis hands an easy caught and bowled to the left-arm off-spinner. Akram bowls a flighted delivery outside off-stump with Mendis (10 off 9) coming down the track and mistiming completely.
Sadeera Samarawickrama has held on to one end comfortably and all he needs is a reliable partner in the other end. Janith Liyanage has showed decent composure so far but it will be interesting to see how long he survives.
Bowled! Sri Lankan innings is really coming apart now. Janith Liyanage chops on a simple outside off length delivery from Faheem Ashraf and Sri Lanka loses their 5th wicket.
Another one bites the dust! The well-set Sadeera Samarwickrama is bowled on an absolute peach by Faisal Akram. The length was perfect from where the ball turned sharply and bowled the batter through the gap between his bat and pad.
Shaheen Afridi hits Maheesh Theekshana on his boots with an in-swinging low full-toss and the umpire finally raised his finger after some deliberation. There was a touch of reverse swing on his delivery which proved out to be too much Theekshana.
Another Sri Lankan batter sent back by Pakistan in the form of Jeffrey Vandersey. It was another reverse swinging yorker by Mohammed Waseem Jr. which crashed into the middle stump which were rattled by the impact.
Haris Rauf gets the Sri Lankan No.10 batter Pramod Madhoshan off a fierce bouncer which Madushan deflected to the wicketkeeper.
There is big mix between both the batter and it eventually led to the fall of Sri Lanka's last wicket for 211 with 28 balls to spare. Sri Lanka would be kicking themselves for not having played their quota of 50 overs which would have added at least 15-20 runs more to their score tally.
The coach told me to bowl those hard lengths and told me to assess the conditions and tweak my plans accordingly. I try to use my variations and bouncer and that has worked quite well for me in this game.
Pakistan openers- Fakhar Zaman and Haseebullah Khan are out on the field rearing to take on the Sri Lankan bowlers. Pramod Madushan will start the proceeding for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka draws first blood as Haseebullah short stay at the crease comes to an end. A fuller delivery by Maheesh Theekshana which Haseebullah played straight to the mid-off fielder.
After an initial stutter, Pakistan's innings is now stabilizing with experienced Babar Azam (14*) and Fakhar Zaman (32*) on the crease.
Pakistan are cruising in the chase of 212 despite losing the wickets of Haseebullah Khan (0) and Fakhar Zaman (55). They still requires 122 runs of 32 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Babar Azam (28*) and Mohammed Rizwan (3*) are currently at the crease.
Just when things were looking in control for Pakistan, Vandersay managed to get the biggest wicket of the Pakistan team. Babar Azam's off-stum goes for a toss as he misses the line of the ball. He departs after scoring 32 runs off 52 balls.
Vandersay delivers a beauty. A well-disguised googly pitches on a good length, grips, and turns sharply back in. Salman Agha plays for the wrong line, completely beaten as the ball sneaks past the outside edge and thuds into the pad.
It looked stone-dead the moment it hit him, and ball-tracking confirms it was crashing into the top of middle. No hesitation from the umpire. Salman Agha departs for 6 off 11, and Sri Lanka get a crucial breakthrough.
Mohammad Rizwan is quietly taking control of this chase, playing the anchor’s role with trademark composure. At 27 off 46, he’s ensuring Pakistan don’t let the required rate climb, rotating the strike smartly and picking his moments without forcing the pace.
A 50-run partnership between Rizwan and Hussain Talat has arrived at a crucial time. Rizwan is leaning on his experience, while Talat has shown great maturity at the other end. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka desperately need to break this stand before it’s too late.
Mohammad Rizwan brings up a well-constructed fifty, holding Pakistan’s chase together with trademark calm and control. He’s paced his innings beautifully, rotating the strike and keeping the pressure off the middle order. With Hussain Talat offering steady support at the other end, this partnership has put Pakistan A firmly in command.
Theekshana to Hussain Talat, FOUR, Talat finishes it in style. He stands tall, meets the fuller ball cleanly, and drills it straight past the bowler. Mid-on has no chance as it rockets away to the boundary. Pakistan seal the win by 6 wickets and complete a 3-0 series sweep.
It’s a clean sweep for Pakistan, and in the end, the low target made all the difference. Sri Lanka had their chances, striking early, removing Babar and Salman Agha, and keeping Pakistan to 115/4 after 25 overs. But defending 211 was always going to need more from their bowlers. Rizwan and Hussain Talat absorbed the pressure, steadied the innings, and then eased into a match-winning, unbeaten hundred-run stand that sealed the chase with maturity. Vandersay’s 3/42 was a standout effort, but the support around him never quite arrived, allowing Pakistan to take the game deep and wrap up a 3-0 whitewash.
