New Zealand edged closer to a series win after defeating South Africa by 6 wickets in the 3rd Women's T20I at Eden Park, Auckland. This victory gives the White Ferns a 2-1 lead in the on-going 5-match series.

Choosing to bat first, South Africa struggled early as Jess Kerr and Rosemary Mair struck within the first three overs.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt (37) and Annerie Dercksen (27) stabilized the innings, while a late unbeaten cameo from Kayla Reyneke (34* off 20) pushed the Proteas to a competitive 149/7. Sophie Devine (2/21) and Suzie Bates (2/10) were the pick of the bowlers.

In response, New Zealand stuttered at 68/4 before Sophie Devine took charge. Her match-winning 55 off 38 balls, supported by Maddy Green’s unbeaten 34, guided the hosts to 152/4 in 18.4 overs.

Devine was named Player of the Match for her all-round heroics.

New Zealand Women dominated the series opener in Mount Maunganui with a comprehensive 80-run victory, asserting control early on. However, South Africa Women responded strongly in Hamilton, producing a disciplined performance to clinch the second T20I by 18 runs and level the series.

The 4th W-T20I will take place on Sunday, March 22 in Wellington.
