Nepal edged past UAE by a single run in the 11th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier 2025 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1) on Sunday, October 12. In a thrilling encounter, Nepal posted a competitive 140 for 6 and then held their nerve in a nail-biting chase, with Dipendra Singh Airee’s match-winning bowling spell ensuring a narrow victory in this closely fought contest.
Nepal set a target of 141 runs, with opener Aasif Sheikh playing a vital innings of 51 runs off 47 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Karan Bhurtel chipped in with 28 runs, while captain Rohit Paudel contributed 20. Nepal lost wickets at regular intervals, including quick dismissals of Gulshan Jha, who scored a quick 14 off 5 balls, and Dipendra Singh Airee, but managed to post a challenging total aided by six extras. UAE’s bowling was shared among several bowlers with Junaid Siddique, Mohammed Rohid, Zahid Ali, Haider Ali, Harshit Kaushik, and Dhruv Parashar each taking a wicket. Haider Ali was the most economical with an economy rate of 5.5 runs per over.
Chasing the total, UAE came close but were restricted to 139 for 9 in their 20 overs. Alishan Sharafu was the standout performer with a fluent 58 off 40 balls, while Dhruv Parashar provided a rapid cameo of 32 runs off 18 balls, including three sixes. However, wickets at crucial stages disrupted their momentum. Dipendra Singh Airee emerged as the match-winner with figures of 3 for 22 in 4 overs. His composure under pressure, especially in the final over where he dismissed Parashar after conceding a six, helped Nepal cling on to a thrilling 1-run victory. This win boosts Nepal’s campaign as they progress further in the Super Six stage of the qualifier.
