  • This win is Shreyas Iyer's first series win as captain

  • Ishan Kishan (81) and unbeaten Tilak Varma (60) powered India to a formidable 219/5 which they defended successfully

India secured a resounding 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club, capturing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Opting to bowl first after losing the toss, Zimbabwe's bowlers were put to the sword as India's batting lineup put up a formidable total of 219/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan anchored the innings brilliantly, smashing a sensational 81 off just 44 deliveries, featuring nine fours and two sixes.

He received aggressive support from Tilak Varma, who blazed away with an unbeaten 60 off 29 balls laced with three maximums, alongside useful contributions from Shreyas Iyer (25) and young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (20).

Chasing a daunting target of 220, Zimbabwe made a brisk start inside the powerplay through Brian Bennett, who chipped in with a quick-fire 32 off 19 balls. However, once the opening partnership was broken, the hosts suffered a dramatic collapse as wickets fell in clusters under relentless pressure from the Indian bowling attack.

Abhishek Sharma led the bowling charge with impressive figures of 3/17, while Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav bagged two wickets each. Ravi Bishnoi and Shivam Dube also chipped in with tight spells to bundle out Zimbabwe for 129 in 17.5 overs. Ishan Kishan was named Player of the Match for his match-winning knock, sealing a dominant all-round performance that gave Shreyas Iyer his first series victory as India's captain.

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer expressed confidence in setting a target on this surface, and said:

"We were going to bat first. I feel it [pitch] looks a bit different. It's not as tacky as it was in the first game. I feel the bounce will be consistent, and that's what I'm hoping. But let's see how it plays... We have one change -- Yash Thakur comes in for Ashok Sharma."

Thakur, a right-arm pacer, is making his debut.

Raza, now the most-capped Zimbabwean international, explained bowling first: "First reason being the winter wicket as we know, it's slightly spicier at the start, so hopefully we can make early inroads and then see what comes in the batting order later on."

And they are unchanged.
