Summary
  • IND-W defeated PAK-W by 88 runs in the ICC Women's World Cup Match 6 in Colombo

  • Kranti Gaud was named Player of the Match for her magnificent bowling performance

  • No Handshakes were exchanged between the two teams after the match

India Women registered their second consecutive win in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2025 by defeating Pakistan Women in Match 6 by 88 runs in Colombo. The Indian bowlers dominated, leaving the Pakistani batters clueless throughout the innings.

Asked to bat first, India managed to put up a fighting total of 247 runs on the scoreboard. Deol’s composed 46 off 65 balls and Richa Ghosh’s spirited 20-ball 35 lifted India to a competitive on a sluggish surface. Pakistani bowlers brilliantly used the favourable bowling conditions to stop India on a chasable target.

Chasing the target, Pakistan lost control initially, losing their three wickets on just 26 runs. As the Indian bowlers tightened their grip, Sidra and Natalia Pervaiz (33) offered resistance with a 69-run stand, briefly steadying the innings before the inevitable collapse followed.

Pacer Kranti Gaud (3/20) dismantled Pakistan's top order while the spinners cleaned up the middle-order and tail, bundling them out for 159, despite a valiant effort from Sidra Amin (81 off 106 balls). Gaud was named Player of the Match for impressive bowling performance.

With this win, India extended their perfect head to head record to 12-0 in ODIs. India also continued their “no-handshake” policy at the toss or after the match, sticking to the precedent set during the men’s Asia Cup in the UAE.

India Women will now play their next match of the tournament against South Africa Women on October 9 in Visakhapatnam. They would like to continue their winning momentum, however the batters will need to step up after two 'not so good' batting performances.

Harmanpreet Kaur - Very happy, very important game for all of us and I'm sure everyone back home is happy as well. Our bowling was great. Kranti bowled really well, she was outstanding and Renuka helped her in getting the breakthroughs. We created so many chances, unfortunately we dropped it, but in the end when you win you are happy. It wasn't an easy pitch to bat on, we wanted to bat longer and see how many runs we can get.

Fatima Sana - In the powerplay we gave a lot of runs. In the death overs also we lost some extra runs. When I bowled it felt like it was seaming. Danny (Diana Baig) was a little bit confused regarding seam or swing. I was telling her continuously. I think she will be fine in the next match. If we restricted them under 200, it would've been a good total for us. I still believe that today's batting lineup was good because they are pure batters in top five. They need to step up. Just need to explore yourself because in batting we need long partnerships. Have to assess conditions and adapt to it. She's main player in our team and is very hardworking (talking about Sidra Amin).
